Turkey issues statement in support of Uyghurs in China

I thought this was a big developement, as so far not many have come out in support of Uyghurs in China.
But aren’t Erdogan & Xi supposed to be friends?
So why would Erdogan irk Xi at this crucial point when Turkey is busy with Armenia & Syria?
Did I miss something?

Trump and Xi are also friends,but this has nothing to do with Erdogan personally,its the government.
Im guessing some MP's pressured the government.
Btw,we are not busy with Armenia,if we were,Armenia would have lost already.
