The Caracal Assault Rifle 816, or CAR 816 was developed in the United Arab Emirates by a Caracal International company. This weapon was first publicly revealed to defense officials in 2013 and to general public in 2015.

It is a gas-operated weapon, chambered for a standard NATO 5.56x45 mm ammunition. The CAR 816 is based on the lower receiver of the M16. In concept it is similar to the Adcore Defense BEAR Elite, Barret REC7, Colt CM901, Heckler & Koch HK416, and some other weapons, that are based on the lower receiver of the M16.

The CAR 816 has an adjustable gas valve, which controls the gas system. There are three positions of the gas valve. First position is for normal operation. Second position is for operation when the system is fouled, for adverse conditions or when low impulse ammunition is used. The third position is used when the weapon is equipped with a sound suppressor.

This weapon is available with three barrel lengths. There is a compact assault rifle with a 267 mm (10.5"), carbine with a 368 mm (14.5") barrel and assault rifle with a 406 mm (16") barrel.

A fire mode selector is located above the pistol grip and is conveniently operated by the shooter's thumb. It has three positions for "safe", "semi-auto" and "full-auto". There is a semi-automatic only version of this weapon, intended for law enforcement forces.

This assault rifle is fed from aluminum 30-round capacity magazines. These are standard NATO (M16-type) magazines.

The CAR 816 has a telescopic buttstock, which can be adjusted for length. It has 6 positions. A similar buttstock is used on the Barret REC7.

This assault rifle has a full-length Picatinny-type scope rail. It comes as standard with detachable flip-up iron sights. However this weapon is mainly intended to be used with various optics. Range of effective fire is around 500 meters.

There are additional accessory rails over the foregrip for various add-on equipment, such as laser pointers, tactical flashlights, vertical grips, bipods and so on. The CAR 816 can mount a sound suppressor.

It is arguably a better version of the HK416 and designed by the same people.

We already remember Caracal pistol disaster . Although They transferred all Steyr engineering team to Caracal , nonetheless they imported the high-end machinery , they could create a pistol which didn't work.

This is a vague statement.
Yes it is but the same designers finished the HK416 and SIG516 before desigining the 816 so it is likely they refined their skills.

Dont take my word on it I did say arguable.

Caracal has improved their pistol line since that happened a while ago, and at least they gave refunds.

I don’t think so. Buying from a foreign majority owned company enough reason for them.
Well that was the reason provided.

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg) announced in a press release on 2 March that C G Haenel has been disqualified from the competition to replace the Heckler & Koch G36 assault rifle after an external law firm found alleged patent infringements.
The ministry said that Haenel had been given the opportunity to respond to allegations of patent infringements and that the company’s comments were taken into account.
Haenel said in a statement posted on its website on 4 February that the The Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw), Germany’s Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support, had given it until mid-January to respond. The company concluded that the report commissioned by the BMVg “lacks expert content that would have been necessary to prove serious misconduct”. Haenel denied that its technical solution for the over-the-beach capability of its MK556 rifle to allow it to continue to operate after being submerged infringed any patents. Furthermore, Haenel claimed its technical solution was the “absolute state of the art ... used in various rifles from international manufacturers for decades”. Moreover, Haenel said the alleged patent infringement of its magazine was irrelevant as it was not part of its offer. The company claimed that H&K had not lodged a complaint or begun patent proceedings.
Haenel claimed in its 4 February statement that it was not permissible to exclude it from the award procedure and expected to be awarded the contract. German public television network ARD reported on 2 March that Haenel could be expected to bring the issue to court, further delaying the replacement of the Bundeswehr’s G36 assault rifle.

UAE and Indonesia will joint produce this gun. The article below is in Bahasa, maybe use Google Translate if you want to read that.
Good, I want the UAE to license the SM3 for armed forces if possible unless it is against licensing rules. There is no machine gun being made yet and this is a good option.

Caracal is a good gun for Indonesia as well and I have heard it is a lot cheaper than similar AR platforms using Pistons.

SM3 is not something special btw, that just common Minimi. But, if the UAE want that, thats ok. At least that will increase our GDP lol.

The rifle looks nice. I like a lot of types of rifles, but my favorite will always remain Ruger Ar-556. I even have one at home, and I can sometimes use it for hunting. I adore it! I like its speed and that it allows me a rifle shooting a 55-grain cartridge at velocities over 3000 feet per second to be easily manageable. Moreover, I like their scopes because they are long-lasting and it is affordable. On a site, I found the best Scopes for this gun. The qualitative is good and the price not so big. I love this riffle.
