By Nabil D. - The details of the military agreement signed between Morocco and Israel in Rabat this week have not been revealed by official sources in both countries. It is known, however, that the document contains clauses dealing with Israeli intelligence assistance on the supply of advanced equipment for Mohammed VI's army. According to a document released by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the Israeli drone company, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), has secured $ 22 million from Morocco for the acquisition of suicide drones.
The Israeli media, which refers to "foreign" sources, indicates that this transaction is part of the normalization agreement between the two countries, noting, in passing, that the Israeli firm has refused to "comment on its sales in Africa". "Israeli aerospace industries received $ 22 million this year, as part of an agreement with Morocco, according to reports that Israel would sell the Harop-type drone with on-board missiles," insists Haaretz, who specifies that "Last month, the Defense News weekly published reports based on sources in Morocco," claiming that "Israel intended to sell these drones to the country as part of normalization between the two countries." The newspaper also takes up information reported by Africa Intelligence which indicated that Tel Aviv and Rabat had considered, last September, the creation of a mixed company specializing in the assembly of suicide drones in Morocco.
The Harop drone produced by Israel Aerospace Industries is 2.5 meters long, says Haaretz, who points out that the latter is used by the Israeli, Indian and Azerbaijani air forces. “The Harop carries some 20 kg of explosives and can stay in flight for up to seven hours, with a range of up to 1,000 kilometers. The drone is able to lock onto a target, diving and exploding on it, ”the Israeli newspaper explains, noting that the documentation relating to this trade agreement“ can be found in the financial reports of Israel Aerospace Industries for the third quarter of 2021, submitted last week to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange ”.
According to the report quoted by the newspaper, the aviation department of the company in question "recorded revenues of 12 million dollars in the third quarter and 10 million in the second quarter", adding that "sources familiar with the matter" have told Haaretz that these were "new agreements with Morocco", since the Israeli firm "did not sell anything in Africa in 2019 and 2020".
