BCG to buy two harbour patrol boats​

Bangladesh Coast Guard and Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd, Narayanganj, signed an agreement for supplying two harbour patrol boats in the 2021-2022 fiscal year under the revenue budget.

Bangladesh Coast Guard director general Admiral M Ashraful Haq was chief guest at the signing ceremony at Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters in Dhaka.

This information was given by lieutenant commander Amirul Haque during a media briefing at the Coast Guard headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday, said a press release.

Narayanganj Dockyard and Engineering Works managing director Commodore SM Monriuzzaman was present as special guest.

Amirul Haque said that two more Inshore Patrol Vessels, BCGS Joy Bangla and BCGS Apurbo Bangla and 6 large high speedboats are in the process of being handed over.

Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) organized a training course titled 'VISIT Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) for Officer' at Maritime Safety and Maritime Security School in Patuakhali from July 31 to August 11. Organized by United Nations Office on Drug and Crimes (UNODC) and Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), a total of 12 trainees, four from Sri Lanka and 8 from Bangladesh took part in the training. A total of 3 trainers,2 from Bangladesh and one from Sri Lanka, conducted the training program. Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, media officer at BCG headquarter, revealed the information on Thursday.

BCG Deputy Director General Commodore Md Anamul Haque attended the closing ceremony of the practical training course and distributed certificates among the trainees yesterday. Commandant BCG Base Agrajatra Captain Shahjahan Siraj along with other officials was present on the occasion.

Speaking the program, BCG Deputy Director General Commodore Md Anamul Haque said, "Our coast guard will be more efficient to ensure law and order, security, public safety and prevent robbery across the seaport areas."Later, Md Anamul Haque handed over a Suzuki 4 Stroke training boat to coast guard donated by the UNODC for training purpose.​

As part of her government's long-term plan to provide security to deep-sea and blue-economy, the Prime Minister said that they have planned to add two more all-weather and deep-sea Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), a hospital ship, hovercraft and several high-speed vessels by 2026-2030.
