The new Bayraktar TB2 drones will be aimed at protecting the sea coast
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine plans to sign a new contract with the Turkish company Baykar Makina for the purchase of a batch of reconnaissance and strike UAVs Bayraktar TB2.This became known to Defense Express from its own sources in the Ministry of Defense.
The law enforcement agency plans to send new drones to protect the sea coast of the Black and Azov Seas.
The number of unmanned complexes is not disclosed. However, it was reported that in addition to mobile control stations, which are based on one for two or three UAVs, it is also planned to purchase a number of stationary stations.
This will begin the formation of a continuous "control field", in which it is possible to transfer control of the drone from one station to another. Such a field has already been created in Turkey, which has deployed a network of stationary stations along the borders.
Note that the total length of the sea coast of Ukraine, excluding the temporarily occupied Crimea, is about 800 km. At the same time, the communication range between the control station and Bayraktar TB2 has now been increased to 300 km , without the use of additional antennas or repeaters.
Thus, only three stations are needed to form a continuous "control field" in the southern direction. And in the case of "coverage" only the Black Sea coast and the administrative border with the Crimea - two.
Bayraktar TB2 in Turkey is involved in missions over the sea
It should be noted that the decision to purchase Bayraktar TB2 for these tasks is most likely due not only to the need to control the waters and sea borders of Ukraine, but also to the adoption of the coastal defense missile system "Neptune" RK-360MC from DKKB "Luch". Because they must get at least an approximate area of the target, in which they will independently search for and destroy it.
And while Luch is developing a more powerful Sokil-300 UAV, equipped with radar stations, which allows it to "see" through clouds, fog and rain, the issue of guiding R-360 cruise missiles must be resolved by other means. How exactly the drone and high-precision weapons from DKKB "Luch" will work together - in a separate article Defense Express .
Currently, with the maximum assistance of the Ministry of Defense, the development and full cycle of testing of the "Falcon-300" can be completed only in a few years. Because after the first flight, which will take place no earlier than the end of 2021, it will face numerous factory and state tests. In Ukrainian realities, they last for another 2-3 years. And this in terms of a proactive position on the part of the customer.
Therefore, it seems that while the Sokil-300 will be able to become "on the wing" in 2023-2024, the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 will deal with the monitoring of the southern borders of Ukraine.
