The United Kingdom has strong defense cooperation with Bangladesh and if security equipment is purchased from that country, the bond will be longer and stronger. The European country is interested in selling Eurofighters, more warships, C-130 transport aircraft and other equipment to Bangladesh.

This was stated by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom Robert Dixon at the Decab Talk organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh at the Press Club in the capital on Wednesday (October 26).

The ambassador said there is strong cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense procurement. While I was here, we delivered five C-130 transport aircraft to the Bangladesh Air Force. This is a successful transaction.

The ambassador said the UK's Royal Navy survey ships have now been included in the Bangladesh Navy as part of the BNS Anushandhan. We are very interested in keeping it going.

"Our maritime capacity is very high and we want Bangladesh to buy security equipment from us because we make good things and they are cheap," he said.

He said the country that is moving forward can invest more in defense. We (the two countries) are discussing how we can work together.

UK is a member of the Euro Fighter Consortium and an interesting opportunity to discuss jets has been created, he said, adding that Typhoon Biman is very suitable for Bangladesh but its price is high. But it will be good for Bangladesh if they want to buy it.

He said there are many opportunities to purchase naval goods, adding that the bond is longer and stronger in such transactions.

What type of warships being offered to Bangladesh Navy?

Currently Bangladesh Navy is looking for 6 frigates, OPVs, mine counter measure vessels (MCMV), one submarine support and rescue vessel, one logistic support ship, one ocean going tug vessel, one floating dry dock, one oil tanker, one oceanographic research vessel and one landing platform dock (LPD). Cammell Laird shipyard and Babcock International expressed interest to build the frigates.

The friendship between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, which has lasted over five decades, should be expanded further with a strategic partnership, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“We need to change the lens we used to view our partnership. Our engagement now should truly be strategic,” the prime minister said.

She highlighted the need for cooperation between the two countries on peacekeeping, counter terrorism, maritime and aviation security in an event at the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, organised by the British Asian Trust on Wednesday to mark the golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh.

''it is expensive...

it is expensive , sovereignty doesn't come cheap''

That's some crafty capitalist reply imo. sovereignty doesn't come cheap but can be protected at cheaper cost if you turn to China to achieve minimum deterrence. Sometimes i wonder who benefits the most from Rohingya issue and shifting from China. (And who actually created this issue)

Who do you think?
Don't you blame it on 'big bad West' this time. Cause, this isn't what actually happened.

I just get suspicious sometimes. The rape of the Rakhine woman and attack on an outpost happened out of nowhere and if i am not wrong the outpost attack was unprovoked. And these can't be the reasons enough to crack down on million people. ARSA became militarily active after the Rohingya crisis. Refugees became political tool for West.

It was also our fault to accept these refugees. The crisis made BD shift from China, obviously China and Russia will protect Myanmar cause it's in their block (similar to all other countries like Iran, N. Korea for their beef with West) and Bangladesh isn't close ally with anyone. Who had close relation with China in South Asia after Pakistan? Who was the top Chinese arms exporter after Pakistan?Bangladesh.

Whose weapon could assist BD to achieve FG2030 faster? China. Now we have spend more money to buy things and sometime our projects see no progress because of limited options and budget. So sometimes i feel like the crisis wasn't only Myanmar, China and Bangladesh's fault. False flag operation is nothing new and it's not like someone's gonna leave evidence for you to find real culprit. Again just my occasional suspicion.
