led, Western supported initiative took place to raise $6.75 million usd, for the purchase of 10,000 FPV drones to be fitted with explosives and used as kamikaze drones. The money was raised in THREE days and the purchase has been completed. The first 5000 drones have already been delivered to Ukraine to be fitted with explosives and distributed to brigades across the front. An additional 5000 drones are being sourced and will be sent to Ukraine in the coming weeks and months.
That is A LOT of destroyed Russian armor upcoming. Slowly, but surely, the great Soviet stockpile of weapons is being ground out of existence, at the cheapest price the West will ever pay.

Russian armor continues to get massacred as the Russians ramp up the assault in the Avdiivka direction. It's rumoured that Russia has committed more than 8000 troops and 300 pieces of armor (MBTs and IFVs) to this direction. Ukrainian reports are that the fighting is horrendous and that they've have to abandon several forward positions, however, the main stronghold continues to fight on strong.
One can only wonder if this will be the next Bakhmut, where Russia burns through an entire fighting force of thousands of men and hundreds of irreplaceable armored vehicles, in an attempt to take one small city. We shall see!

Footage has been published showing a Russian kamikaze drone “Lancet” destroying a Su-25 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force. This is the second case when a Lancet drone destroys a Ukrainian plane; we previously talked about it. The plane was again destroyed at the Krivoy Rog airfield Dolgintsevo, 70 kilometers from the front line, apparently the Russian army is using new modifications of drones. After the drone hit, a fire started in the Su-25 aircraft.

With scenes like these I am wondering how Ukraine is thinking to defend their coming F-16s? They must be stored in specially built reinforced hangars.
It is ridiculous how equipment costing millions of dollars gets destroyed by something low cost like this system. We saw even quadcopters wandering around air force bases and damaging military aircraft in this conflict. Crazy.

They'll keep them based at more heavily defended aerodromes, well outside the range of Russian Lancets, which are rumoured to have a range of up to 70km now (which is an impressive upgrade).
An F-16's range is 925km on one tank of fuel, without drop tanks. That range increases to over 1200km with a fuel drop tank. That means Ukraine can base them extremely far from the front lines, where only Russian longer range missiles can strike. Those bigger, longer range missiles are also easier to intercept, particularly when you up something like a Patriot Battery, supplemented by an IRIS-T battery around the base.
Furthermore, Ukraine has underground hangars / hangars built into hills at some of their aerodromes, where they can keep their most imporant aircraft safe at all times except taxi, departure and landing. They're not going to be leaving F-16s sitting on a tarmac / ramp somewhere, unless they are hundreds of KMs away from the front lines, at aerodromes covered by several layers of air defense.
Furthermore, F-16's don't have to be close to the front lines to be effective. Ukraine intends to use its full capability as a weapon's platform, from range. HAARM missiles have a range of uo to 150km when fired from and F-16. JASSM cruise missiles have a range of up to 370km for the standard version and up to 1000km for the extended ranged variant. Furthermore, the F-16's can intercept both missiles and enemy aircraft / helos with their AIM-120 AMRAAMs which have a range of 100-110km. An F-16 can carry up to 6 AMRAAMs and 2 AIM-9 Sidewinders as a full weapon's payload.
In short, Ukraine has no interest in flying their F-16s close to the front, or basing them inside of Lancet drone range. As the F-16s arrive, you'll see them become more daring and aggressive with their remaining Mig-29s and SU-27s, as they'll become obsolete within their inventory.

Lanced is more of a threat for equipment close to the front line but what about the Shaheds? Shahed 136 has reportedly a range of ~2500km. We saw many times how they hit their targets even in close proximity to the Romanian border around Izmail. The range is not a problem. I think the risks are huge but we will probably see ourselves will their layered air defence deal with the threat. Maybe we can even see new innovative solutions as we saw many times in this war.
