If it wasnt for the Ottomans. Constantinople would have been an irrelevant city like Baghdad.

A city that is languishing and living off long lost glory.

Still the Turks dont get credit they deserve.

A lot of the Islamic Turkic Empires built cities like Istanbul, Bukhara, Samarkand, Rey and Mosul. They became jewels of the Islamic World.

Doesn’t matter I’d rather see Ankara grow to super metropol with 15 mio citizen. But I am not sure that will ever happen

The most important thing is that turkey's economic power, the center of GDP, and trade had to be split. A country with decentralized economic hubs is strong. A country with concentrated economic power very vulnerable. Japan 1945 e.g. If Istanbul was destroyed, 60% of the GDP would be lost - this is total insanity!
PERIOD

That is why there is so much political fighting over who gets to govern Istanbul. I noticed that when CHP came to power in Istanbul they started talking about that there aren't any money. Which makes me wonder, if there aren't any money, how did AKP run the metropol in the past.

I also remember reading in a newspaper that a creditline Istanbul Municipality got from a bank was by court order used to pay expenses incurred from previous administration. The entire credit amount.

I don't think he is lying, so the question is how did the previous administration run the city ?

I mean if AKP ran istanbul and paid their "friends" to clean the halic for 10 mio TL (just an exaggerated example), while it could be done with the municipalities own staff for 1 mio TL. Then I can understand how they ran the city.

We all know someone always gets their hand into the honey jar, if you do not have transparency. If you do not have fair tenders and such.

Brother, I don't give a damn about who is running the country as long as they run the country for Turkeys interests and for the Turks, not for the NorthAtlanticBridge, EU etc. - with clean water, clean streets, clean environment, economical power, military power, diplomatic power - against any enemy on this planet earth, it doesn't matter if its the DHKP-C, PKK, YPG, Can Dündar/Newspapers drinking coffee with Karayilan, or other strange people and groups - A Gov. who is determined to fight any attempt to infiltrate the country through NGOs, Media, Journalism etc. -

The mentioned point was, that all the prior Gov. of turkey to this day were so suicidal, crazy and dumb, that they concentrated almost the whole economic power of TR just inside IST 34 - that was the only thing I tried to point out. Compare our situation, to Germany in WW2 - the economic power was so widespread, that the allies had to bomb the whole country for almost 2 years in a row - because there were too many economic-hubs all over the country... TR nowadays - lmfao - 2 Nights above IST - and the whole TR economy would collapse - that is insane

.

Because istanbulus are spoilt all due to previous governments regardless of party.

When you invest all your stuff on one city this is the result. Us Turks dont know how to manage an economy and never will. This is a fact.

We create a lot of the problems by ourselves. Because its not worth in investing in other parts of Turkey and spreading the economy out.

Its all about Istanbul nothing else. In Australia we seem to have this problem in a way because our governments only care about Melbourne and Sydney who gives a crap about the other places.

We gotta break out this mentality.

I think many of the investments into infrastructure makes sense. But as I mentioned several times before and used Kütahya airport as an example. The financing of some of these projects are not in the best interest of the country. Thus people involved and who took the decisions should serve 15-30 years prison sentence. Without parole. (I am pissed at how waste money).

I think railways are optimal solutions. We need millions of km rails from Kara Deniz to Akdeniz from Aegean to Kars/Igdir/Hakkari/Van.

Government is talking about kanal istanbul, So we can cash in on the traffic from the Black Sea, but ppl will still use the cheap Istanbul strait. I'm more in favor of using Turkey as transit route for the goods through railways and harbours and such.

Make it attractive for Georgia to use railways to Mersin or Hatay, and ship it from there. Partly free trade zone or some such solution that makes them use several transportation options.

Hehehe fell over an old forum https://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=207545

MHP suggest reintroducing death penalty. I say "no" unless it's for parliamentarians only. But that is because we lack proper accountability.
