The foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan will meet for the second Pakistan-Turkey-Azerbaijan Trilateral Meeting on January 13, a press statement by the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.

The foreign ministers will discuss various issues including "new and emerging threats to regional peace and security", challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change. The three sides will also discuss measures that should be taken to achieve development targets.

Additionally, the three countries will also explore possibilities of deepening trilateral cooperation in all areas of common interest, including peace and security, trade and investment, science and technology, education and cultural cooperation, the press release stated.

The first trilateral meeting between the three countries was held in Baku in 2017.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu is arriving in Islamabad on a three-day visit today.

During his visit, Cavusoglu will also hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and call on Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi. According to the FO, it would be Cavusoglu's third visit during the last two and half years.

What are the prospects for some arms deal in exange for oil? What can be done in short term for benefiton of these 3 countries, how turkey can help pakistan in solving issues which are internally most problematic for pakistan and what pakistan can provide in return.
I am not glad to see all this diplomacy without substance and concrete projects.

  • Pakistan can help Turkey out with its nuclear program
  • Turkey can assist Pakistan with adopting the new and proven drone doctrine
  • Azerbaijan can provide oil and perhaps serve as a mediator between both nations and Israel

That is obvious but least pheaseable for known reasons, altough that for sure should be goal.
To put it in simple words, what can be done that trilaterale trade and joint ventures would be around 100 billions usd, what are the necessary steps to be done if this goal is unrealistic,, etc.
I would like to se some agenda similliar to CPEC, not endless protocolar diplomatic meetings.

If I had any influence this is what exchange I would aim for -

  • 'peaceful' nuclear help to Turkey from Pakistan
  • Turkey helps Pakistan with establishing a effective internal paramilitary force drawing on Turkish Jandarma's experiance with Kurdish insurgencies etc
  • Turkey and Azerbaijan offer help in drone technology
There are other ideas that are more long term which I will leave for later.

I'm not too sure, however I will mention something which may prove to be fairly significant. Recently Uzbekistan and Pakistan agreed on a railway which goes through Afghanistan. I'm not too sure about the details, however this is a significant development as it essentially means that Turkey, Azerbaijan and the Central Asian Turkic states will have a brand new land trade route which ends in the coast of Pakistan. Essentially it means the Suez canal won't be necassary for Turkey to ship to Asia/East Africa/Oceania. Meanwhile Central Asia will open up to the world. Also, Pakistan will become a massive trade hub. It's a win-win for everyone.

I have no doubt that this will be discussed in the meeting.

Spectacular if that occurs true. But brother i like to hear concrete promises and projects with given timelines, that puts some responsibilty on shoulders and also makes public more focused and directed towards things that really matters in politics, promised=delivered.

Don't mean to bring down the mood but any nuclear assistance would mean sanctions for both Pakistan and Turkey (given Turkey ratified the NPT).
+ Any TOT on drones will likely get into the hands of the chinese - a loss for everyone.

PM signs letter seeking $4.8b for trilateral rail project

Pakistan, Uzbekistan agree to pursue Trans-Afghan railway line project ‘Mazar-e-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar’

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday signed a “Joint Appeal Letter” seeking $4.8 billion loan from various International Financial Institutions (IFIs) for a railway line project connecting Pakistan with Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and the Central Asian Republics.

The premier signed the letter after Uzbekistan’s Minister for Transport Makhkamov Ilkham called on him.

During the meeting, matters relating to bilateral relations, regional connectivity, and peace and security in the region were discussed and the two sides agreed to pursue Trans-Afghan railway line project “Mazar-e-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar”.

The prime minister particularly highlighted the importance of joint efforts to promote regional connectivity for economic growth and development of the region.

PM Imran observed that “Pakistani seaports provided a great opportunity to Central Asian States for access to the Indian Ocean.”

The official statement noted that PM Imran “supported Uzbek efforts to secure financing for the project by signing Joint Appeal Letter addressed to the Heads of various International Financial Institutions (IFIs) by Heads of State/Government of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.”

The premier maintained he had long underlined that there was no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan.

He highlighted Pakistan’s positive contribution to the Afghan peace process and underscored that an inclusive and broad-based political solution would help the establishment of durable peace and stability and contribute to regional connectivity, progress and prosperity.

He observed that Pakistan’s fraternal ties with Uzbekistan were based on common religious, historic and cultural bonds and reaffirmed the commitment to further deepen bilateral cooperation in all spheres.

PM recalled his last meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and stated that Pakistan looked forward to his visit at the earliest convenience.

He also underlined Pakistan’s resolve to forge closer ties with Central Asia, covering trade, investments, energy, and people-to-people contacts.

The Uzbek transport minister conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes of the Uzbek president and noted that President Mirziyoyev was looking forward to visiting Pakistan.

On behalf of President Mirziyoyev, he also reiterated the invitation to the PM to visit Uzbekistan and reaffirmed the desire to have deeper bilateral trade and economic ties as well as enhanced connectivity with Pakistan.

Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati and Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood were present during the meeting.

The Uzbek minister is on a one-day visit to Islamabad to discuss in detail rail and road cooperation from Central Asia to Pakistani seaports.

With the funds raised under the joint appeal, a 573-km long railway link will be constructed. The shortest economic track would run from Peshawar to Kabul and from Kabul to Uzbekistan via Mazar-e-Sharif and the route will have “27 stations, 912 artificial constructions and 7 tunnels” to facilitate cargo movement.

Everyone's talking defence ties, but the obvious answer is: a FTA and investments in each others countries. Turkey has a bigger industrial base then let's say Pakistan and can invest and with local factories. In the future R&D and exports into other markets from Pakistan to other Asian markets. Best example is Arceliks investments in White Goods with Dawlance.

More business and money in the pocket is what will benefit all three countries and also make the citizens happier and slowly kill any separatism problems.

I put this here, because I couldn't find a general discussion topic for the Pakistani air force. Nevertheless, I don't think it is very unrelated to the subject. Cross talks between the force commands and different bureaucratic layers continue intensely.

Yes... there is a preparation for something, but it is still speculative which purpose this preparation has set as its focus. The only reality is that the world is changing... Faster and more dramatically than before.
