US Capitol on high alert ahead of Biden's inauguration

US Capitol on high alert ahead of Biden's inauguration

In the aftermath of last week's Capitol riots, Washington DC is preparing for Joe Biden's inauguration with extreme security measures - closing roads, erecting barbed wire fences and deploying 20,000 US troops.
The FBI revealed that dozens of people on its watchlist came to the capital the day of the riot.

@Yankeestani thoughts? I find it interesting that when PA is used in Pakistan to address serious issues many like @VCheng make all sort of comments. Reality is every country is only a military away from a contingency. In UK the British military has been deployed to help with the pandemic from distribution, logistics and manning testing centres. When we see armies on the streets it is barometer of the stress a state is under. The greater the stress the more you will see combat fatigues.

The transfer of power by specified due process will be completed on time. No worries.

Boss transfer of power is not the issue. Every country has transfer of power. One day even Erdogan will see transfer of power. What is of import here and relevant to the "due process" is massive number of Americans do NOT think this has been legitimate transafer of power. You know "STOP THE STEAL"

And that transfer of power is being overseen b y massive use of soldiers and raw military power. Witness the Capitol looks like a army barracks.

The anger created by the USA's attempt to change the maps, especially in the Middle East after 90s, and our reaction on its hard power use willing is great. This anger causes us to see all kinds of negative developments on the US side as exaggerated.

However, my observation is that millions of citizens in the USA have never seen it, and especially the Middle Easterners take these issues more seriously than almost all US citizens. Also, I found very ironic that the citizens of the states, whose history was written in military coups or who organized official parades with hundred thousand soldiers in their capitals, evaluated the security measures in the USA as the collapse of the USA. Moreover, they express these ideas on US-based digital media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram.

Security measures in the capital even interventions to demonstrators and serious events are still incomparable with 68 DC incidents. But on the other side, I agree that It is a fact that after a long time, re-polarization becomes evident in the USA. Global pandemic and economic uncertainties, the irresponsible populism of politicians, and many situations such as digital tyrannies and world wide social engineerings make this change even more painful. The USA can not isolate itself from this situation.

All I can do is paraphrase here that the news of USA's death are greatly exaggerated. :D

(BTW, the normal deployment for inauguration security is around 10,000.)
