Turkey, as part of its national program, aims to increase its competitiveness in space by investing in 'space weather, meteorology': Erdogan
"Our first goal is to land on the moon by 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said late Tuesday in a press conference during the inauguration ceremony of Turkey's National Space Program and the Turkey Space Agency.
"I believe Turkish engineers will manage to carry out this mission," he said.
"Turkey aims to build a spaceport; we will achieve this goal with international cooperation," Erdoğan further stated.
"Turkey’s second goal is to create a global brand that would compete in the field of next-generation satellite development," he said.
The President also said that Turkey aims to send a citizen to the space.
"We also aim to send a Turkish citizen to space within the scope of a scientific mission," Erdoğan stated.
"The integration of our domestically-developed high-resolution earth observation satellite is complete," he added, touching upon Turkey's efforts to develop its indigenous satellites.
The new satellite, called the IMECE, is an important step to meet the needs of Turkey's military and civilian sectors for high-resolution images from indigenous technology.
Final assembly of the satellite was done jointly by Turkey's ministries of technology, defense, and transportation.
Following the successful completion of tests, production of the pioneering satellite is set to begin.
Other observation satellites of Turkey include the Rasat, Göktürk-1 and Göktürk-2.
The Rasat observation satellite is the second remote sensing satellite of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) Space after Turkey’s first earth observation satellite Bilsat.
Designed and manufactured in Turkey, Rasat was launched from Russia on Aug. 17, 2011.
Although the original design life of the Rasat satellite was three years, it successfully completed its ninth year in orbit as of Aug. 17, 2020.
The Rasat satellite, in circular orbit synchronized with the Sun and at an altitude of 700 kilometers (435 miles), operates with 7.5 meters of monochrome and 15 meters of multiband spatial resolution push-broom camera.
Turkey’s other Earth observation satellite Göktürk-1, aimed at meeting the high-resolution image need of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) for target intelligence, was launched in 2016.
Turkey’s first high-resolution observation and surveillance satellite Göktürk-2 was launched on Dec. 18, 2012.
It was a project funded by TÜBITAK and conducted by the TAI and TÜBITAK Space team under the coordination of the National Defense Ministry.
It can provide digital and geographical data production with the target intelligence needed by the TSK and the Air Force Command in particular.
The satellite has a high-speed data communication that can download an image of a nearly 640-kilometer (397-mile) lane in a single pass.
The Gökturk-2 project aimed to develop technology, expert manpower and infrastructure for space and satellite systems and to meet the observation and research needs of public institutions and organizations with national capabilities.

Most of these 10 goals mentioned above and especially lunar mission's schedule are extremely ambitious. There are points in which international cooperation is mentioned in the speech. This situation shows that studies on international cooperation have made a significant progress.
Last week, there was a detailed meeting between SpaceX owner Elon Musk and the Turkish presidency. Elon Musk has also visited Turkey in 2017 and had made a series of talks at the presidential complex. It's another funny little detail that the president constantly mentions Musk as 'my brother'. If I'm not mistaken, SpaceX will be among the strategic partners of TUA. My other prediction is that cooperation with CNSA(China National Space Agency) is quite possible.

Turkey had signed a memorandum of cooperation for space applications on 15 October 2020 in Kazakhstan.
The Russians are launching satellites in Kazakhstan.
Located in the Kızılorda state of Kazakhstan, the Baikonur Space Base Facilities covers an area of 6,700 square kilometers and consists of the city of Baikonur and the Baikonur Space Base.
Baikonur, the world's largest space base, has a launch pad, control towers, control centers and a missile test area of 1,500 kilometers.
