Moeed Yusuf appointed National Security Adviser​

The SAPM on National Security Division's designation will be equivalent to a federal minister

Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Security Division and Strategic Policy Planning Dr Moeed Yusuf as the National Security Adviser on Tuesday.

The cabinet division issued a notification, confirming Dr Yusuf's appointment for the post. The SAPM also confirmed the news to The Express Tribune.

According to the communique, the designation will be equivalent to a federal minister.

On December 24, 2019, Yusuf was appointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Security Division and Strategic Policy Planning and was given the status of Minister of State.

Yusuf is the associate vice president at the Asia Center at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) . He is the author of Brokering Peace in Nuclear Environments: US Crisis Management in South Asia.

In October 2019, he was made chairman of Strategic Policy Planning Cell (SPPC) under the National Security Division (NSD).

The cell was formed to assist the government through research and draft policy recommendations on national issues.

Yusuf has done Masters in International Relations and PhD in Political Science from Boston University.

He was a research fellow at the Frederick S Padree Centre for the study of the longer range future at the Padree School of Global Studies at Boston University’s Political Science Department before joining USIP in 2010.

Indeed. Let's hope he brings in new energy. I think the post has mostly been held by military men apart from Tariq Aziz, sartaj Aziz and now mowed Yusuf.

He is definitely a supporter for fast tracking of CPEC priority western route so he is your guy and what I like about him is that he has been very vocal on the provincialization of GB or atleast changing the status of GB and giving them rights. That's a bold move and he is now in position to do that. Also he is a string advocate of turning LOC into IB so if the army didn't criticize his appointment then that means that they are seeing things from a different perspective.
