On the night of June 21, the Russian army launched a missile and drone strike on a Ukrainian oil refinery in the city of Kremenchuk, in the Poltava region. The European Union announced a new package of sanctions against Russia on Tuesday, saying that Moscow’s daily deadly attacks against Ukraine show that it is not interested in peace – despite recent diplomatic efforts.

The new package – the 18th since Russia launched its full-scale unprovoked invasion against its neighbor in 2022 – is designed to further target the Kremlin’s ability to make money from its oil and gas production.

The proposal includes lowering the price cap on Russian oil exports from $60 to $45 per barrel and introducing a full transaction ban on Russian banks and financial institutions in third countries that help Russia circumvent existing sanctions.

Selling crude @ 45 USD per barrel is a disaster for Putin's government. This could signal the beginning of the end for Russia financially + for its non-military economy. I hope the war does not stop. Russia should start to crumble here and there in the next year.

Footage of a Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile strike on a Ukrainian army training ground. The video was filmed near the village of Davydiv Brod on the border of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. also announced a new military aid package for Ukraine valued at $500 million usd. The package consists of the following:

- 20 CASEVAC Modular Medical Vehicles
- $100 Million usd towards Ukrainian domestic drone production.

The Netherlands also signed a series of contracts for the production of 600,000 drones for Ukraine, valued at $580 million usd.

Britain

announced a new military aid package for Ukraine today. The package is valued at $100 million usd and consists of the following:

- 350 ASRAAM Air Defense Missiles
- 5 Additional RAVEN Air Defense Systems

Note: RAVEN is the ground based launch platform (vehicle) for ASRAAM missiles. This batch of 5 being sent to Ukraine will bring the total to 13 units in Ukraine's inventory. The system is designed to intercept both drones and cruise missiles.

Given the government's lack of funds, I am mystified why the central bank does not push the value of the ruble down - unless inflation is higher than the published rate. Lower ruble value = more rubles received by the government per barrel of crude sold in USD. Lower ruble value = more expensive imports, so pushes inflation up.

In its quest for funds, Russia has a new tactic - seize companies that are not 100% Russian owned. Some rich Russians with dual nationality (I guess for tax reasons) are falling victim to this new tactic.

Is this risky? I imagine that some of the rich oligarchs have dual citizenship for tax reasons. Would it be dangerous for Putin to seize their assets?
