IMO we do not even need 40 new F16's.
Upgrade the blk 30/40 to Özgür level (close to blk 70), this will take several years approx to 2025, by that time also blk 50 will be old enough to modify the plane at will.
Upgrade those to Özgür+.
Around 2026-27 most likely the light fighter jet of...
That's why I like to have a clear answer on whether our blk 50's still require US permission, if yes till when? Seems that nobody can answer this for sure and nobody strangely is asking Ismail Demir in all those interviews he is giving.
On the contrary, Ozgur project is ready and prototype F16-Ozgur has been on tests for a long time (only the AESA radar of Aselsan is / was not ready yet)
It is not for nothing that 35 blok 30's get their structural upgrade prior to serial özgür upgrade
With alternatives I should express myself better.
I did not mean alternative foreign fighter jets, there it is not worth to face the logistical nightmare to introduce Su-35 / eurofighter, Rafale or Gripen.
I meant what is our alternative to upgrade the F16's with Ozgur project on our own.
If...
What are our alternatives?
Let's think of worst case and US is not selling F16blk 70 and blk 70 upgrade kits, than what? What are our options?
Can we upgrade the Blk 30 and blk 40 planes with Ozgur? = ~130 F16's
In how far are we dependent? Can't we replace the complete software of the F16...
I don't know about others but for me this feels like an unfortunate defeat, to go and ask the US.
Leaves a very bitter taste.
I almost hope the US will decline, am sick of this US dependency.
While the sungur missile is spoken, we have seen it on an integrated launcher on a BMC vehicle
The question may have already been asked, would it not handy to integrate the Sungur on the Korkut system?

It doesn't have to be better, if it fulfils our needs it is good enough.
In what way if F35 better? We cannot use the F35 to her full potential like the US does. The US can use the F35 fully netcentric which makes the F35 so valuable, can we? If not than what is the super value for us, that she...
F35 is indeed a good aircraft, no one is denying that.
What is not good is that it is an open book for the US. How safe would you feel Turkey going into war with an aircraft that is open book for the US?
How was the US intelligence sharing for instance of the Reapers against PKK? How...
Does not matter, without contract anything can still happen.
I can give you an example on Turkish U214 agreement, on all fronts all technical details there was agreement until the last point of financing when became clear that the German bank was asking a too high interest rate. It delayed the...
Still none of those many contracts have been signed.
Not to piss you off but nothing is certain without legal binding (contract) and even than politics can interfere with embargoes etc.
You may think you have agreement, not on paper though!
Nothing but a MOU is signed.
This means negotiations on details and price will follow. It is not a contract yet but negotiations start with preferred bidder.
Nope, F16 is technologically completely different from build up. They could have an embargo and not deliver spare parts but they can't look into the mission computer.
F35 is more like the smartphones, they can follow each move. US could warn top YPG officials that a Turkish F35 is coming for...
