In August, Spotify’s editorial team published “The Best Pakistani Songs of the Year So Far 2026” - 50 tracks spanning pop, ballads, experimental music, reworked classics and hip-hop. This wasn’t a locally driven playlist or a diaspora nostalgia exercise; it was a global platform’s own editors deciding, on their own criteria, that Pakistani music had produced enough worth flagging to a worldwide audience.

Crafts from 100 Pakistani villages on display under one roof at Karachi Expo Centre

KARACHI: Celebrating crafts from over 100 villages across Pakistan, the two-day 25th Daachi Arts and Crafts Exhibition opened at the Karachi Expo Centre on Saturday.

The creativity of artisans was on display on over 200 stalls in the shape of the finest pottery from Hala and Multan, painted and carved woodwork, hand blocked and embroidered textiles, brassware and kilims, basketry and folk toys, traditional silver and bead jewellery and organic and preserved fruit products from Hunza.

Other than puppet shows and hands-on pottery making for children, an art gallery and organic food by home-based cooks were also a part of the exhibition.

GILGIT: European Union (EU) Ambassador to Pakistan, Raimundas Karoblis on Wednesday launched two major projects in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) including first “GB Carbon Strategy and Action Plan” and second the proposed new “Agriculture Policy and Action Plan 2027–2036 GB”, prepared for GB government under European Union (EU) support policy to address climate change, protecting the environment and promoting sustainable economic development in the region.

Swedish rights prize honours Pakistani human rights lawyer Jalila Haider

The Right Livelihood Foundation recognises Haider for challenging "ethnic, state and patriarchal persecution".

Human rights lawyer and activist Jalila Haider on Wednesday received the Right Livelihood prize, dubbed an “alternative Nobel”.

The Sweden-based Right Livelihood Foundation honoured Haider “for breaking barriers, as the first female lawyer from her Hazara community, to challenge ethnic, state and patriarchal persecution, guided by the conviction that no human being is illegal.”

According to the foundation’s website, Haider in 2018 “led a seven-day hunger strike against the targeted killing of Hazaras” that led to direct negotiations between the army chief and Hazara women, “resulting in a sustained decrease in attacks against the community”.
