AN/ALQ-257 (otherwise also known as IVEWS )has started flight test. IVEWS was selected by the Turkish Air Force.

There were also rumours going around in greek media that the Turkish Air Force was co-financing its development don't know how credible that is though, I think if it was true we would have heard something on our side about it.

On the contrary, we rarely ever hear about that kind of stuff re US. Plenty of nonsense talk about congress, DSCA, will they won't they, but never anything about actual development, funding, details. Senate okayed the F-16 deal, who here knows anything about the specifics which are yet to be signed?

For one small recent example, who here knows the full details of the 259 million deal for F-16 modernization that was announced in 2023?

"The Government of Türkiye has requested to buy defense articles and services to support its current fleet of F-16 aircraft, to include software upgrades of the Operational Flight Program (OFP) avionics with the Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (AGCAS) capability; hardware modifications to enable integration of the Multifunctional Information Distribution System Block Upgrade II (MIDS BU II), procured separately; hardware and software upgrades to include aircraft major modification; both classified and unclassified software and software support; integration and test support; support equipment; training and training equipment; spare and repair parts; publications and technical documentation; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistical support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support. The estimated total cost is $259 million."

I'm not saying whether it is true that we are co funding IVEWS or not, just that we don't know. We know however that Greek media in the past did report earlier and more accurately than any other regarding Turkish procurement of American systems and we have reason to believe Greek reporters have better sources and are better embedded into American MIC for the last decade.

It's not their reporters, its their "lobbyists". People they hire to bribe, I'm sorry, "lobby" US politicians to oppose anything and everything when it comes to us. Those people know the inner workings of the deals better than anyone and they give the information to Greeks, who then leak to their press to try to create pressure on the other politicians to veto it as well.

Funnily enough the greek media, same media that reported about the F-16 deal before ours did, is now in overdrive reporting that Türkiye is about to re-join the F-35 program. We shall see, we shall see.

Kinda stupid, they should try to lock down the deal as well as try to do everything to strengthen ties with partners before Trumps comes and tries to ruin everything in hopes that things will survive for another term before someone somewhat sensible is elected again, from US foreign policy perspective.

The AN/ALQ-257 Integrated Viper Electronic Warfare Suite (IVEWS) to be integrated into the F-16 has completed ground tests and begun flight tests. It is said that the system will provide the F-16 with electronic warfare capabilities equal to 5th generation aircraft. Turkey announced that it would procure more than 150 of these systems along with the F-16 Block 70 purchase and signed a letter of agreement with Northrop Grumman to modernize its old aircraft with IVEWS. Turkey also became the first country to procure these systems after the United States. James Conroy, vice president of navigation and targeting at Northrop Grumman, said the system could help maintain Viper reliability into the 2040s.

Northrop Grumman emphasizes that this system works seamlessly with the APG-83 SABR. The two working together without compromising the performance of the radar is quite deadly.

It really makes me wonder why Türkiye would be putting pressure like this. Is it simply to see if there is a breaking point where money rules and political standing gets scrapped, or is there something else behind.

Is US stalling the F16 ? Are they stalling something else and that is why we're trying for EF ?

I am not sure barking up EF because F16 being stalled is going to help at all. Because Germy is 100% aligned with the US. So unless Germany is taken out of the EF program there won't be any changes, and I am not sure the partners in EF are willing to screw each other over for Türkiye.

So in my eyes this seems like a flawed approach.

If they sign deal early next year, the jets won't arrive before 2030. (For comparison Qatar signed the deal in 2017, their first delivery was in 2022.) Not to mention Spain, Italy and Germany has already placed orders for new batches.
