The Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed today honoured a fallen Bangladeshi peacekeeper who lost his life on duty in South Sudan earlier this month.

The army chief placed wreath on the coffin of Lance Corporal Kafil Majumder during a ceremony held at the Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday, reads a press release issued by the Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) .

General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family. Other senior officials of the force were also present at the ceremony.

Lance Corporal Kafil Majumder died due to a brain haemorrhage on 6 April while being a part of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

His body was brought back to Bangladesh on Wednesday. He will be laid to eternal rest at his home in Lakshmipur.

Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) is on the verge of replacing the BANAMUHU-2 contingent at the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan addressed the members of the contingent (BANAMUHU-3) at Bangladesh Air Force Base Bashar, Tejgaon on Tuesday.

While addressing, the chief of air staff advised peacekeepers to discharge their duties with honesty, sincerity, and professionalism to bring a good reputation to Bangladesh Air Force as well as for the country. Thereafter, he participated in a special munajat arranged for the success of the contingent.

Among others, principal staff officers, air officers commanding of Dhaka area, and senior BAF officers of Air Headquarters and Bases were present on the occasion.

BAF has deployed three Armed Version MI-171 helicopters equipped with a night vision system and necessary ground support equipment for the said mission.

BANAMUHU-3 contingent will be led by Group Captain Md Ahsanur Rahman.

On 2 June, the contingent will depart for the Central Africa Republic from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka.

One-hundred-ten members of the Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Sangram engaged in the UN peacekeeping mission in Beirut, Lebanon was awarded the Peacekeeping Medal.

On this occasion, the Medal Parade of BANKON-12 Contingent of BNS Sangram was held in Beirut on Monday, reads a press release issued by the Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate.

Rear Admiral Andreas Mugge, commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Maritime Task Force (MTF) presented the medal to 110 naval officers and sailors in recognition of their contribution to peacekeeping operations.

Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral M Ashraful Haque, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Lebanese Navy Capt Asad Abdullah, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Lebanon Maj Gen Mohammad Jahangir Al Mustahidur Rahman, Mission Support Director Mis Melva Crouch, and senior officers were present on the occasion.

At the Medal Parade, MTF Commander Rear Admiral Andreas Mugge thanked all members of the Navy deployed to the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon for the successful conduct of the mission.

He also commended all the members of the Navy for their tireless and dedicated contribution to peacekeeping in the world. He also expressed his gratitude to the Bangladesh Navy and the government of Bangladesh for the continued success of the Bangladesh Navy and hoped that this trend would continue in the future.

It may be mentioned that the Bangladesh Navy's warship has been participating in the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon since 2010. As a member of the Multinational Maritime Task Force in the Mediterranean, the only Bangladesh Navy warship in the subcontinent is engaged in establishing world peace.

Currently, the deployed Sangram warship is working efficiently to prevent the infiltration of illegal weapons and ammunition into Lebanese territory. The ship is also conducting maritime interdiction operations in Lebanese waters, surveillance of suspicious ships and aircraft, rescue operations on wrecked ships and providing necessary training to Lebanese naval personnel.

Since its deployment in Lebanon, the Navy has been carrying out its responsibilities of establishing world peace with utmost sincerity, dedication and efficiency. This proud participation of the Navy has indeed enhanced the image and reputation of Bangladesh in the international arena.

Three Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and another was injured, as an improvised explosive device went off in Kaita area of the Central African Republic on Monday.

Jashim Uddin, 31, Jahangir Alam, 26, and Sharif Hossain, 26, died of injuries at a hospital in Bouar town, while Major Ashraful Haque, who was injured in the explosion, is receiving treatment there, said a statement from the Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

They were travelling in a vehicle through the Kaita area around 8:35pm (local time) on Monday.

The four were taken to Mimusca Hospital in Bouar town where doctors declared three of them dead around 6:30am (local time) on Tuesday, said the release.

The other Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed in the Central African Republic are safe, said the release, adding that the bodies of the three peacekeepers will be brought back home soon.

A Bangladesh Army battalion has been deployed in Bouar since November 9, 2021.
