The cabinet has approved the draft of a deal to send 1,129 members of the armed forces to Qatar on deputation.

The deal will be automatically renewed after the end of its five-year tenure, Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain said after a meeting of the council of ministers on Monday.

The armed forces of the two countries will sign the final deal.

Mahbub said Bangladesh also has a similar deal with Kuwait under which 5,000 members of the armed forces are working in the Middle Eastern nation.

Is this for some kind of knowledge transfer or oversea bases/protecting the oil states?

Probably overseas deployment to provide training and support. They never really disclose the details. Kuwait's mine clearance operation should be over by now so what they do and will do in these countries is unclear to me. Supplementary manpower perhaps.

The armed forces of the two countries will sign the final deal.

Final deal was signed today. It's an open contract. Later, Bangladesh can recruit any amount of troops under this open contract for any reason. For now there are more soldiers than officers. The agreement was signed after the two countries signed a MoU in October last year. There is possibility to recruit more personnel in future. Food and accommodations are free for the contingent. Bangladesh will be able to earn estimated $3 million per month from this.

An agreement was signed on Tuesday in Doha, Qatar in this regard.

As a result of this agreement, members of the armed forces of Bangladesh will be recruited into the armed forces of Qatar.

In a press conference organized after signing the agreement, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman said: “Through this agreement, a bridge will be established between the armed forces of the two countries. Besides, bridges will be established between the people of the two countries.”

The agreement signed on Tuesday is a continuation of the MoU that was signed in October 2022, he added.

He said: “In future it will be possible to take more people from our armed forces. Currently, 1,129 people have been appointed. Through this, enough remittances will come to our country. We have calculated that $3 million per month in remittances will be possible. All food and accommodation of our soldiers in Qatar will be free.”

The gulf countries are becoming increasingly important for our foreign diplomacy.More deals to happen in future.

@F-6 enthusiast RSN chief has met with our CNS yesterday.I guess some cooperation is in the plate between BN and RSN.

Here we go, Qatar contingent is official.

If these qarari banks ready to provide loans in USD in exchange for cooperation, it would be very good for our large scale procurement.

@F-6 enthusiast what do you think?

Qatar State can provide as many grants, loans , concessions , gifts etc as they want.
If the political leadership does not have the motivation and willpower nothing will be achieved.
The armed forces needs to pressure the MoD to speed up (and increase) procurements.

The good thing is we're not sending our guys to clear mines for the Saudis. Lets hope it stays that way. We can take Qatar's grants like we took from Saudis for BNS BB. Qatar can train our pilots too.
