Boeing has been awarded a $342 million contract to manufacture two KC-46A aircraft for Japan.
“The Boeing Co., Seattle, Washington, has been awarded a $342.12 million modification contract for KC-46A Aircraft 3 and 4 for Japan. This modification provides for the exercise of an option for an additional quantity of two KC-46A Japan aircraft being produced under the basic contract,” the U.S. Department of Defense said in a release today.
Work will be performed in Everett, Washington, and is expected to be completed June 30, 2023.
The State Department, in September 2016, cleared a $1.9 billion sale of four KC-46A refueling tankers and related equipment to Japan. The following year, the U.S.A.F. awarded Boeing $279 million for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s (JASDF’s) first KC-46 tanker and logistics support, marking the aircraft’s first international sale.
