"To many Bangladeshis, Rahman is still snidely known as Khamba Tarique, referring to an alleged corruption scandal whereby thousands of electricity poles, or khamba, were reportedly bought from an associate at inflated prices but never connected to the grid."

Bangladesh’s Prodigal Son
After years in exile, Tarique Rahman returns home to a nation in flux.time.com
I didn't want to say this but it is exactly because of this type of behaviour you got less than 80 seats. Jamaat to vast majority of Bangladeshi voters is just another political party contesting the election, not a group of some saintlike holier than thou people who will take you to heaven with one vote. I urge you to respect the mandate of the citizens of Bangladesh because of whose sacrifice in the july revolution you could contest the elections in the first place. I also hope Jamaat will address its controversial stance on women, minorities and sharia. You can definitely criticize any decision of BNP in future as the opposition but you can never question the mandate of the people. This is the democracy for which over 2000 people gave their lives.
- Surah Al-An'am (6:129): "Thus We let some of the wrongdoers have power over others because of what they used to earn."

"You talk about stances? BNP leaders can't even agree on whether to ban the Awami League or let them contest. If they can't form a coherent stance as an opposition, how will they govern as a mandate? even though the Jamaat Ameer has made some controversial comments himself."I also hope Jamaat will address its controversial stance on women, minorities and sharia
I can ! These people were silent for 17 years; were they showing their supportive mandate for the fascist Hasina?you can never question the mandate of the people
The July Revolution was led by students who wanted a New Bangladesh, not a Recycled Bangladesh. Giving power to the same 'jokers' and 'defaulters' isn't democracy; it's a betrayal of those 2,000 martyrsThis is the democracy for which over 2000 people gave their lives.
