DEFEA 2021, Defense Exhibition in Athens will also see the participation of national and international naval defense companies. The naval shipbuilding industry will present the latest developments in warship design as well as the prospects for developing platforms suitable for the 21st' century maritime supremacy.

Despite being a member of the EU and NATO, Greece is geographically situated in a conflict-prone region where the use of force in inter-state relations may still be considered as an option. Therefore, in order to safeguard its security, the challenge for a status quo country like Greece in the early twenty-first century will be to broaden and deepen its ties with its EU and NATO partners, at a time of internal and external adaptation of these organizations.


The Hellenic Navy should maintain technological superiority. The acquisition of force multipliers, in the form of C4I systems, advanced weapons and electronic warfare systems should be a priority. The acquisition of over-the-horizon maritime-borne strike capability will provide a significant operational capability and a strategic advantage against potential aggressors. Sustainability in the conduct of maritime operations in the Aegean cannot be neglected.


It seems that the multi-role Frigate will continue to be the main unit of the Hellenic Navy. A modern multi-role frigate has operational capabilities in line with operational requirements, personnel limitations and logistical support capabilities. Increased air defense capabilities in the field of area defense, which are absent from current operational capabilities, should be given high priority.
The Hellenic Navy's fleet of warships and auxiliary boats is harbored in the two major HN naval bases at Salamis Island near Piraeus and at Souda Bay on the island of Crete. Internationally, the Navy used the prefix HS (Hellenic Ship) for its vessels.


The Hellenic Navy relies mainly on frigates as its primary surface heavy boats. The fleet consists of thirteen frigates. The types operated are the Hydra class (Type: Meko-200HN) and the Elli class (Type: Kortenaer). The Elli class frigates HS Elli and HS Limnos were sold to Greece during construction, the rest were bought directly from the Dutch Navy. The Hydra class vessels were constructed in Greece by Hellenic Shipyards Co., except from HS Hydra that was constructed by the German company Blohm and Voss based in Hamburg.

The acquisition of new frigates for the Hellenic Navy is a top priority for the Greek government, as well as the upgrade of existing warships. Greece could invest 5 billion euro’s in the acquisition of four new frigates. DEFEA is a unique opportunity for shipyard companies to present the latest generation of frigates and submit state-of-the-art ships to the Hellenic Navy.

After a decade, Greece is organizing the first international exhibition of defense industry and security. DEFEA 2021 is attended by 315 defense industries and other companies in the sector from 22 countries. Of these, 97 are Greek and 9 are Cypriot. This is the first time that Cyprus participates in a specialized defense and security exhibition.
The heavy exhibits of the event, which will be located indoors in the exhibition center, will include the following:

We will also see for the first time the armored vehicle 4x4 Hoplite of the Greek company EODH.
This armored vehicle can be equipped with a Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) that can accommodate a heavy 12.7mm M2 machine gun. The total weight of the system is 250kg, it has stabilization in 2 axes, night shooting range and ammunition stock of 500 projectiles. Alternatively, a 40mm automatic grenade launcher or a 7.62mm / 5.56mm machine gun can be installed in place of the machine gun. In addition, it has 2 quadruple 76mm smoke bombers on the roof.

Ukrainian company UKRSPECSYSTEMS has developed the PD-2, a new generation of modular vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicle that is displayed at DEFEA 2021, International defense exhibition in Greece.

While developing PD-2 UAS UKRSPECSYSTEMS team pursued a simple goal, to develop an efficient and versatile solution that may be operated in any environment or weather conditions, consumables and spare parts should be available worldwide, the configuration of the system should be changed within minutes to fit mission requirements as well as production time and export procedures should be reasonable.

The airframe of the PD-2 can be easily configured as a VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) fixed-wing UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) or as a conventional fixed-wing aircraft with or without chassis. Rapidly change airframe configuration on-the-go wherever you are within 15 minutes. No tools are required. You can change take-off and landing methods, wingspan, endurance, MTOW, payload weight.

The PD-2 is powered by a 4-stroke carburetor gasoline engine and can reach a maximum flight speed of 140 km/h. It has a maximum take-off weight of 55 kg and an endurance of 8 hours.

The PD-2 is a multi-purpose UAS. Modular construction and flexibility allow changing the payload on the go depending upon mission tasks. PD-2 UAV is capable of cargo delivery in different ways: dropdown via fuselage/wing modules or even landing the drone for load/unload and further take-off. Cargo delivery may be executed by command or at a predetermined point.

Control and communication are vital for the mission's success. While designing PD-2 UAS our team did its best to ensure the capability of working under different circumstances. This affects not only the weather conditions, but relief complexity and the communication channel preferred for mission success, depending upon various factors.

Standard communication configuration contains a line of sight ground control station, using radio connection. It has two datalinks (the main one, used for video and telemetry exchange within 200+ km range, and backup one, for telemetry only), with the feature of automatic hopping between them in case of GNSS or signal loss and AES-256 encryption.

The ground control station has two laptops for easy integration wherever you need (truck, container, etc). If the relief is flat and open it’s enough to use quadropod, once the mission faces difficult terrain motorized mast comes in hand. Ground control station automatically enables frequency hopping in case of GNSS or signal loss. Moreover, there’s advanced software that ensures the features mentioned above work perfectly on the go with no human intervention.

Israeli company Plasan and its Greek partner ELVO presents the Hyrax, a light armored all-terrain vehicle fully developed by Plasan in cooperation with the OEM Mercedes-Benz.

The Israeli defense holding company SK Group and Plasan have purchased the Greek manufacturer of wheeled and tracked vehicles ELVO (Hellenic Vehicle Industry). The Greek company will be jointly owned by Israeli entities and will produce special vehicles for customers in Greece and abroad.

Powered by 183 horsepowers developed by a Mercedes’ G300 CDI 6V Euro-3 engine coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission, that delivers 400 Nm of torque, Hyrax has a power to weight ratio of 38 HP/T, thus maintaining the class’ agility, acceleration, and power braking. This aspect is becoming essential not only on highways but also ascending or climbing mountainous dirt roads with full armor and combat load. At the Gross Vehicle Weight of 4,800 kg Hyrax carries up to 810 kg of payload when fully manned and loaded for a mission. As for air mobility, the vehicle is sized for transportation in C-130 aircraft.

The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) driveline uses a central differential locking system that includes electrically operated front and rear locks that enable all four wheels to overcome harsh terrain conditions. With a wheelbase of 2,850 mm and ground clearance of 245 mm Hyrax can climb a 400 mm vertical step, cross trenches 600 mm wide, and ford 600 mm of water, using its integral, elevated air intake. It safely negotiates 80% slope and 54% side slopes. The AWD maintains high stability and safety on and off-road, moving on dirt, mud, snow and paved roads. Hyrax maintains all the G Class’ safety features, including power steering, ABS, ESP, BAS, EBD, and airbags for the front seats.

A major advantage of the Hyrax’ is its reliance on a commercial rolling chassis rated for 4.5-ton gross vehicle weight. Unlike other vehicles that require extensive modification to meet payload requirements, the robust frame and automotive system is ready to support the armored cabin, sustaining the vehicle’s dynamics through the full operating envelope, even in the fully combat-loaded configuration. Built in cooperation with the original manufacturer (OEM), Hyrax is approved under the manufacturer’s warranty and is fully supported through the manufacturers’ worldwide service network.

As an armor-protected vehicle Hyrax utilizes Plasan’s battle-proven kitted hull technology. This modular design employs advanced, light armor that defeats small arms, fragments and armor-piercing rounds, meeting EN1522 B6, B7 and STANAG 4569 Level 1 in the basic configuration and is upgradable to B7 and STANAG Level 2. The armor is made of composite materials and includes a large transparent windshield and side windows on all sides.

IWI- Israel Weapon Industries - is a leader in the production of combat-proven small arms for law enforcement agencies, governments, and armies around the world. The company presents its 7.62X51mm caliber IWI Tavor-7, a member of the successful Tavor Bullpup Rifle family, which was developed in close cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), based on lessons learned from actual combat situations.

The Tavor-7 is a fully ambidextrous platform on which the ejection side and the charging handle can be switched quickly and easily from side to side by the user. The ambidextrous features include a safety lever, magazine release, and bolt catch similar to the X95. The IWI Tavor-7 also includes an M-LOK fore-end (at 3 and 9 o'clock) as well as MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail at the 6 o'clock position, to allow the use of multiple devices and accessories. The rifle’s body is built from high-strength, impact-modified polymer, and has a hammer-forged, chrome-lined, free-floating barrel for enhanced accuracy and life cycle.

Additional features include a short-stroke gas piston with a 4-position variable gas regulator, (including an OFF position – a unique feature designed for special operation needs), a rotating bolt system that ensures maximum safety for the user, and a pistol grip that can be changed or modified. The IWI Tavor 7 enables 100% interchangeability, reducing maintenance costs. It is available in four colors: Gray, OD Green, Black, and Flat Dark Earth, with replaceable barrels available in three lengths – 16.5” (419mm), 17" (432 mm) and 20" (508 mm) and a weight (without a magazine) of 4.4-4.5 Kg, defends of configuration.

Meprolight(1990) Ltd. – an Israeli manufacturer of optical & electro-optical systems, thermal and night vision equipment, and self-illuminated sights for military, law enforcement and civilian applications – introduces its recently launched Mepro O2 sight, which is lightweight (approx. 280g), and includes a built-in light sensor and automatic brightness control system that enables clear visibility of the reticle in any lighting conditions - a significant advantage for easy and efficient target acquisition.

The Mepro O2 sight features non-reflective optics without light signature toward the target, for enhanced force protection; a combination of an integral motion sensor and configurable sleep time of 4-8 hours, for power saving and extended operation; a new, improved, rugged MIL-SPEC mounting design and a protected three-button control keypad.

At DEFEA 2021, Greek company Miltech Hellas unveils its new mobile armored control station fitted with multi-sensor surveillance systems which can be used to conduct border control missions in day and night conditions.

MILTECH HELLAS Company offers a wide spectrum of defense applications ranging from field communication products, power converters & distribution units to thermal imaging systems. Moreover, MILTECH HELLAS provides customized/tailored electronics, electro-optics, and mechanical solutions.

The Long Range Surveillance portable cabin unveiled at DEFEA 2021 by Miltech Hellas consists of an armored cabin providing protection against the firing of small arms and grenades blast. It can accommodate a team of police officers or military personnel to conduct control of border or military areas.

The roof of the cabin is fitted with an IP thermal surveillance systems MLT-SUR-RT fully designed and manufactured by the company Miltech Hellas. The system is equipped with a day camera with optical and digital zooms as well as an IR (Infrared) thermal camera. Thermal imaging devices use passive sensors that capture the infrared radiation emitted by all objects with a temperature above absolute zero (thermal radiation), providing ideal operation regardless of lighting conditions.

The MLT-SUR-RT is connected to a computer offering a high level of images in day and night and day conditions under armor protection.

The MLT-SUR-RT is able to detect human movement at a maximum range of 4,350 m and identify people at a range of up to 750 m. For the vehicles, the systems has a maximum range detection of 9,950 m and an identification range of up to 1,850 m. Thermal imaging devices use passive sensors that capture the infrared radiation emitted by all objects with a temperature above absolute zero (thermal radiation), providing ideal operation regardless of lighting conditions.

Israeli company Aeronautics presents its full range of small Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs) Orbiter at DEFEA 2021, the International Defense Exhibition that takes place in Athens, Greece from 13 to 15 July 2021. Heading an industry group focused on unmanned solutions, systems and subsystems, Aeronautics Ltd. Provides integrated turnkey solutions based on unmanned systems platforms, payloads and communications for defense and civil applications.

Unmanned aerial systems have become an essential component of military operations in the modern age. They performed intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, carrying electro-optical/infra-red (EO/IR), radar, and signals intelligence sensors. With the improvement of data-links, enabling command and control in real-time, they also support Target Acquisition and Battle Damage Assessment (BDA), providing precise and efficient engagement of targets.

In the past, only the relatively large UAS were able to carry and operate the payloads necessary to support those missions. In recent years, the miniaturization of electronics and optronics systems and the availability of high-density batteries enable those missions to enable much smaller UAS to carry out most of those missions.

Unlike the larger and heavier drones that operate like manned aircraft and are bound to airfields or other complex launch and retrieval systems, small UAS are optimized to work and support operators at the tactical level. They can move with the forces, deploy from any terrain, including operations at sea, and interface smoothly with the tactical command and control network.

Mini and Tactical UAS

Aeronautics’ Orbiter family of Mini UAS (MUAS) and Small Tactical UAS (STUAS) is designed specifically for tactical applications. These UAS are maintained as organic assets with battalions and companies, and operate reliably and independently with a minimal logistical footprint backpack, vehicular or trailer mounted configurations, delivering critical real-time intelligence to the user.

Aeronautics designed its flying-wing-shaped unmanned aircraft with a blended wing-body that minimizes drag and maximizes lift to support extended missions and maintain a long-endurance, high dash, and slow loiter speed. The sleek flying machines use electrical propulsion for a fast, smooth flight, even under rough weather conditions. The wing shape and silent propulsion result in a low visual and acoustic signature, enabling the platform to operate over enemy territory unnoticed.

The chin-mounted payload has an unobstructed view forward, sideways, and downward, offering a simple and intuitive control of the payload and platform. The platform provided the lift to carry a significant load relative to the platform size, enabling efficient ground handling in the field. Recovery at the end of the mission relies on a parachute and airbag, enabling deployment on any terrain.

The flight and mission control system utilize the proprietary The system is operated and controlled by the Aeronautics proprietary Multi Operation Aerial Vehicle (MOAV) software, an advanced interface developed in-house, designed to serve a range of unmanned platforms. It is compliant with several NATO interfaces, including STANAG 4609 for interface and STANAG 4586 for UAS control, and H.246 for video streaming.

By combining multi-sensor systems on single or multiple platforms, users can merge EO/IR, radar, cellular interception, and electronic surveillance to support tactical missions, develop clear situational awareness for the troops.

Orbiter 2 – a compact, combat-proven man-portable mini-UAV, designed for operation by the tactical level, providing the warfighter real-time intelligence gathering surveillance and target acquisition and reconnaissance. Orbiter 2 is prepared for an automatic takeoff from a pneumatic catapult in only seven minutes and can fly for four hours on a mission. It can operate covertly in GPS-contested airspace and encrypted, frequency hopping datalink to support full-intensity warfare missions. It can also work at low-intensity warfare, counter-insurgency operations, and urban warfare, supporting Homeland Security (HLS) missions in border protection or maritime surveillance.

Orbiter 2 was designed to host many payloads at the baseline, offering versatile mission capabilities at the tactical edge. It operates day and night with the Controp M-STAMP multi-sensor EO/IR payload, performs persistent surveillance video motion detection missions with STAMP-VM. Photogrammetric mapping & 3D modeling missions use Rafael’s HD-Lite system while acting stand-in electronic attack would employ the Woodpecker EW jammer system from Netline. These are only a few of the tasks carried out by Orbiter 2.

Orbiter 1K – The combat-proven Orbiter 1K is a loitering munition platform based on Orbiter 2. The main difference between the two is introducing a fuselage adaptor carrying an explosive payload at the front end of the fuselage. The platform has a miniature EO/IR payload with a video tracker and a warhead weighing 1-2 kg in this configuration. A catapult also launches orbiter 1K. The system can be operated with a medium-range RF module to support analog or digital communications over 100 km range.

Other variants of Aeronautics’ flying wing design are Orbiter 3 and 4. These are larger and heavier platforms capable of performing extended missions inside enemy territory and operate multiple payloads simultaneously, supporting a military force at the tactical and operational level.

Orbiter 3 uses electric propulsion and is optimized for covert missions, supporting up to 7 hours of operation, carrying payloads up to 5 kg in weight, including multi-sensor stabilized EO payloads with integrated laser target-designation systems. It can also carry a cellular interception payload for electronic surveillance missions. Electrical propulsion allows users to operate quietly and undetected inside contested airspace and carry out special missions such as stand-in signals intelligence and electronic warfare. The Orbiter 3 STUAS is fitted with an encrypted digital datalink, supporting an operational radius of 150 km.

Orbiter 4 Slightly larger and almost twice heavier, Orbiter 4 uses a compact internal combustion engine to support 24-hour missions, flying up to 18,000 ft above ground. It has a much larger payload capacity, carrying 12 kg, compared to 5 kilograms of its electrically powered sibling. Both can carry multiple payloads, while Orbiter 4 can operate both payloads simultaneously, the T-STAMP-XR EO/IR in front and another load tucked in a fuselage bay. This can be a maritime search or synthetic aperture radar, electronic surveillance, or cellular interception payload.

With advanced image processing capabilities, automatic takeoff and recovery, and the ability to navigate with and without GPS and data link, Orbiter 4 delivers the capabilities of larger tactical platforms at a much smaller cost. Airstrip independent and operated by three personnel Orbiter 4 carries a small logistical footprint.

Maritime Capabilities

While all Orbiters can operate from the deck of naval vessels, including small boats with limited deck space, it is the Orbiter 4 that excels in this mission, for its versatile multi-payload capability of up to 12 kg and prolonged endurance of more than 24 hours, with an operational radius of 150 km. With its ease-of-use, low logistical footprint, and a small crew of 3 personnel, this runway-free aircraft suits all operational needs on land and at sea. Due to its open architecture and lean infrastructure demand, the Orbiter 4 can be specially adjusted for operation on any naval vessel, including small patrol boats.

The primary payload for this platform is Controp’s advanced STAMP-XR electro-optic payload. The T-STAMP-XR payload provides UAVs and aircraft with the image quality of large UAV payloads all in one miniature camera system. A secondary payload may be a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). Among the different payloads area maritime patrol radar (MPR) and cellular interception modules, supporting naval surveillance, search and rescue operations over the land and sea, and satellite communications terminal. The cellular interception sensor allows Orbiter 4 to conduct ISR missions over different theaters exploiting the communication activity of the targets.

Among the maritime missions assumed by the Orbiter 4 are Deep-sea and coastal surveillance, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and Offshore facilities security. Other naval tasks support littoral and brown water operations, including ship self-defense, target acquisition for precision-guided weapons, gunfire direction, and BDA, similar to its role over land.

Summary

When multirotor drones are becoming a common ISR provider at the lowest tactical unit level, military forces require different means to obtain ISR at a long range. These warfighters must be able to see tens of kilometers away, acquiring targets and threats within reach of current and future weapon systems. Operating reliably and sustainably at these ranges, the Orbiter family of STUAS offers extended mission range and endurance, high dash speed, quickly reaching the area of operation, and mission endurance of many hours o a mission. A high level of autonomy, sophisticated communications, and datalinks are required to overcome interference and line-of-sight obstructions to ensure uninterrupted intelligence transfer to the user.

Rosoboronexport JSC (part of the Rostec State Corporation) fulfills its obligations under previously concluded contracts with the Greek defense. After-sales service of the delivered Russian naval equipment, as well as air defense systems, does not cause complaints from the partner. "Rosoboronexport looks forward to increased military-technical cooperation both with Greece and other European states participating in the DEFEA 2021 exhibition", said Alexander Mikheev, Director General of Rosoboronexport.

Rosoboronexport showcases models of products produced by Russian defense enterprises. Representatives of the Greek Army and delegations of other countries are interested in new models of small arms: Kalashnikov AK-200 series and AK-15 assault rifles, Kalashnikov Pecheneg machine gun and 12.7 mm 6P50 machine gun. The Hoplite (named after the famous antique warriors) is based on a heavy-type, mine-resistant frame optimized for heavy military duty with a fully protected cabin (mission capsule). The vehicle has been designed in the framework of an initiative taken by the company, not as a reply to a tender, under NATO STANAG and EU directives.

The cabin (mission module) is removable and can be interchanged with another one within one hour to match another mission type. Different types of capsules are available, the standard one comprising 5 doors and a flat roof, able to carry 8 people; more types with 2, 3 or 4 doors can be tailored to customer’s request, from combat to peacekeeping roles. The cabin can accept various types of payload and/or an RWS, antitank missile launchers, sensors, etc.

The cabin can be hydraulically raised to provide easy access to the engine and the 6-speed automatic transmission unit. The 5.7-liter turbodiesel engine develops 300 hp/221 kW. The engine bay forms part of the frame structure but is independent of the cabin that provides protection independent from the blast protection frame. Blast frame and cabin floor act as a blast attenuating double skin, an energy-absorbing mechanism. It is worth recalling that EODH is a specialist in armor protection. Mine protected seats and seat attachments are fitted as standard.

The engine, transmission and cooling pack (complete power assembly) are pre-assembled and tested as a unit. This configuration is easily installed as a single unit and can be rapidly removed or swapped out, easing workshop repair and maintenance.

The vehicle has been designed to operate under harsh conditions, between -23°C to +49°C.

Greek company Soukos Robots researches and develops weapons for military missions and civil defense all over the world. The directed energy technology enables the passive detection and targeting of threats that include UAVs (considered as the most growing threat), rockets, helicopters, small and large vessels, etc.

Mini drones represent a new type of threat demanding new solutions. Beyond any conventional weapon systems. They recently disrupted high-profile events flying over protected locations. Highly precise and adjustable laser weapons can provide the needed protection. The energy is aimed to the target by means of an intense beam at the speed of light. The laser beam heats a target at 1,200° in a 20cm diameter. With a range of about 1 km.

Not affected by gravity, HELW (High Energy Laser Weapon) can easily engage and neutralize targets that attempt to attack with high speed and sharp maneuvers. The intensity of the beam can be adapted to the need, ranging from disturbance to destruction, potentially lethal, thus. The laser beam can be activated to « shoot » multiple targets within less than 2 seconds.

On the occasion of the first edition of the DEFEA exhibition, that is held in Athens from July 13 to 15, 2021, Nexter is presenting the VBCI Philoctetes for the first time. This is a complete infantry combat system, armed with a remotely operated 40mm CT (cased telescoped) turret from CTAi and a medium range missile launcher (MMP) from MBDA. It meets the Greek army's requirements for mobility, protection, modularity and firepower. Named Philoctetes, in reference to the mythological hero of the Trojan War, the vehicle will be displayed on the stand (Hall 3 - D17A) in the livery of Greek military machines.

Nexter is also presenting the 105 LG artillery gun, which is perfectly suited to simple use requiring a highly deployable fire support capability. In order to meet the Greek Army's artillery ammunition requirements, Nexter is exhibiting its range of 105mm and 155mm conventional ammunition, its smart ammunition (BONUS and KATANA), as well as propellant charges and fuses. In addition, a large sample of the ammunition catalog can be seen on the stand: 20, 25, 30 and 40mm CT medium-calibre ammunition alongside 40, 76, 100 and 127mm naval ammunition, as well as protective smoke grenades.

In the field of medium-caliber guns, Nexter is presenting the 40CT gun on the VBCI Philoctetes, chosen by the French (RapidFire, JAGUAR), British (Ajax) and Belgian (JAGUAR CaMo) armies. The 40mm gives a real superiority of caliber compared to the 30mm and covers a wider range of targets (UAVs, aircrafts, light vehicles). The 30mm gun is also highlighted, since it equips the Mirage 2000 (30x113) and Rafale (30x150) combat aircrafts in Greece. In addition, the P20 pintle-mount system, known for its

The STAMP systems provide maximum sensor range performance by using highly sensitive sensors, gyro-stabilization and unique video enhancement algorithms.

VIKING Life-Saving Equipment chooses inaugural DEFEA Athens as first live event to showcase consolidated high-performance boat, life-saving and safety solutions for defence sector.

With order volumes from defence customers in Greece at their highest level for many years, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment is taking the first ‘real-life’ opportunity to present its consolidated portfolio of products and services to naval and military clients in an encouraging market.

The opportunity presents itself at DEFEA (Defence Exhibition Athens), a new international event running 13-15 July 2021 at the Metropolitan Expo Athens.

The return of a ‘real life’ event comes at a time when Ministry of Defence procurement in Greece is gathering momentum. It also coincides with high activity at VIKING NORSAFE Life-Saving Hellas, the Danish company’s Greek subsidiary.


John Georgiadis, Managing Director, VIKING NORSAFE Life-Saving Hellas, says that VIKING’s boat production at plants in Norway, Greece and Asia has weathered COVID-19 challenges effectively. The first in a second batch of ambulance boats for the Hellenic Coastguard will leave its Athens plant at the end of July bound for the Sporades Islands. DEFEA will also provide a platform to introduce a new 14m fast patrol boat designed for a current tender.

In addition, the Athens event allows VIKING to highlight the June reopening of its training center in Lavrio and the lifting of travel restrictions on service engineers. Consolidated global service has been a key gain for clients following the 2018 acquisition of NORSAFE by VIKING, he says.

With a customer base including navies, air-forces, special forces, coast guards and SAR, law enforcement and harbor patrol, VIKING’s wider portfolio of life-saving equipment has also been turning heads in Greece, adds Søren Hansen, Senior Sales Manager Defence, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment. VIKING will bring its new SOLAS-approved PV9380 VIKING YouSafe Vanguard lifejacket to DEFEA, designed for its compatibility with other safety equipment. Another new life-saving product disclosure is being saved for the show itself, says Hansen.

“We are all very excited by the extraordinary successes being achieved on the high-performance boat side by John and his team within the region. Recent deliveries and trials have allowed us to give our customers a broader picture of our capabilities. French manufacturer Arquus is a long-term partner for the Greek Army, having supplied more than 240 VBLs to Greece, the largest fleet of VBLs in the world outside of France. The company showcases, among others, its workhorse for tactical missions, the VLRA tactical truck that will be proposed to replace the aging Steyr trucks of the Greek Army.

At DEFEA 2021, Arquus is exhibiting its VLRA (Véhicule Léger de Reconnaissance et d’Appui – Reconnaissance and Support Light Vehicle), a robust, versatile, modular 4×4 vehicle, designed for high mobility and transport in the harshest conditions with minimal maintenance needs. The VLRA is a 12-ton vehicle (17 tons in 6x6 version) that can carry up to 5-ton payloads or combat teams of up to 30 soldiers, on top of 3 crewmen. More than 1,000 VLRA have already been produced, including the Bastion, Arquus’ monocoque APC, which is also based on the VLRA’s versatile chassis. The VLRA is a proud heir to the first-generation VLRA, which was a global success with more than 12,000 units produced for several units throughout the world, starting with the French Special Forces, the British SAS and the Irish Army Ranger Wing, but also countries of the Mediterranean such as Cyprus.

To compete in the forthcoming tender aiming at replacing the old Steyr trucks of the Greek army, Aruquus is building a partnership with Sarakakis Group of Companies, a Greek partner, which means a significant part of the VLRAs would be produced in Greece.

Arquus is also proposing to upgrade the remaining 232 Greek VBLs (among 240 initially delivered) to the Ultima standard to benefit from this ongoing process currently implemented by Arquus for the French VBLs, which means avoiding the usual high cost of launching a new manufacturing process. The upgrade package includes a new, more powerful engine, reinforced suspensions for increased payload and road handling, as well as air conditioning.

Arquus is also proposing its new non-armored, 4×4, Trapper light liaison vehicle (based on the Ford Everest), selected by the French Defense Ministry to replace the old Peugeot P4, under the VT4 denomination, to equip the French armed forces. A total of 4,380 vehicles will be delivered to France, 2,500 of which have already been produced. The Greek army needs to replace its aging 4x4 tactical vehicles and the VT4 can be a serious contender.

The multi-purpose launcher features two PODS; each POD is designed for a specific rocket type: the Accular 122mm (18 rockets) with a range of up to 35 km, the Accular 160mm (10 rockets) with a range of up to 40 km, the EXTRA (4 rockets) with a range of up to 150km and the Predator Hawk (2 rockets) with a range of up to 300 km. The system can accurately and effectively neutralize the specified targets at all ranges. PULS™ is designed to maximize response with optimal firing flexibility, without the need for special modifications to the system. A typical firing mission can be executed in less than one minute from initiation.

The PULS™ is fully adaptable to existing platforms, which enables a significant reduction in maintenance and training costs that would be necessary with a new vehicle platform. The launcher was specifically designed to bridge the gaps between all artillery building blocks: means of fire, sensors, and C4I.

The pods of the PULS autonomous artillery rocket system can be mounted on truck chassis in a 6x6 or 8x8 configuration. Elbit Systems has also developed the Light Puls that can be delivered by a C-130 (Hercules) or similar aircraft and can be mounted on light tactical vehicles.

At the booth of its Greek partner ELVO at DEFEA 2021, the Israeli company Plasan displays the last generation of its light mine-resistant tactical armored vehicle named Storm-Rider, a new member in the SandCat FoV family which is based on the Plasans' 4th generation SandCat architecture.

The Storm-Rider maintains the SandCat's characteristics, with the engine at the front, crew in the middle and troops' compartment at the rear. The vehicle is able to accommodate up to 10 soldiers. The hull of the vehicle provides protection against the firing of small arms and can be configured between ballistic protection up to STANAG Level 3. It is also protected against mine threats up to Level 2a/2b STANAG 4569, 6 kg of TNT explosion under the wheels and floor of the vehicle.

The Storm-Rider is powered by a 6.7L V8 OHV Power-Stroke Turbo-Diesel engine developing 330 hp. at 2,600 rpm coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle can reach a top speed of 105 km/h. It can climb a vertical step of 500 mm and can negotiate a side slope of 35° and gradient of 60%.

The Storm-Rider has four doors which are fitted with heavy-duty door handles offering ease unheard of for armored vehicles. Inside of the vehicle, dual combat locks ensure the doors stay safely closed, even after a blast. Floating floors, footpads and Energy attenuating blast seats protect the occupants and even more importantly keep them comfortable over long missions.

The entire design of the Storm-Rider is the result of optimizing geometry and material to maximize space, payload, protection and minimize weight by utilizing a flat bottom multilayer blast mitigation system, allowing the vehicle to maintain a low center of gravity and combat vehicle low profile silhouette. The interior is well-insulated and spacious, designed specifically to accept the integration of any equipment a user could need.

The roof of the Storm-Rider can be fitted with a remotely controlled weapon station that can be armed with a machine gun and controlled from inside of the vehicle.

The Storm-Rider has a Curb-Weight of 10,500 kg with a maximum payload of 1,400 kg. The seating configuration consists of two seats at the front, two seats in the middle, and six seats at the rear. There is one additional door at the rear of the hull used by the soldiers to quickly enter or leave the vehicle.

A very interesting system displayed by the Israeli company Plasan and its Greek partner ELVO at DEFA 2021 is the ATeMM (All-Terrain electric Mission Module) rigidly connected to a Hyrax tactical vehicle, turning this 4x4 vehicle into a 6x6 with a high power supplier.

The ATeMM is a connected and synchronized controlled electrically powered platform, not a simple trailer, even if its top cover can carry a heavy payload. It can easily be connected to any pickup truck or tactical vehicle by a unique, patented « 3-point fast connection » that enables the vehicle and ATeMM to perform as a 6x6 synchronized vehicle, the electrically powered axle (200 hp electric motor) of the ATeMM being directional, which relieves the driver from having to master the usual difficulty of controlling the trajectory of its trailer when driving backward, for instance (no « jack-knife »); this makes the driving by an inexperienced driver easy.

Harvesting energy from the wheels, the ATeMM can provide onboard vehicle power on the move for external systems and equipment. It is built with a 37-200 kWh rechargeable battery pack. 20 kW of power is regenerated when the vehicle is on the move but solar panels can also recharge the battery. Three modes can be programmed: charge, eco or power.

The ATeMM increases the payload by 2,540 lbs, its operational flexibility and the traction of the 4x4 vehicle while maintaining its original maneuverability (synchronized driving, steering and braking). The electric motorization of the ATeMM enables the whole vehicle to drive silently.

The module can be adapted to a wide range of roles, from medical evacuation to armed platform, exceeding by far simple cargo transport.

At DEFEA 2021, an international defense exhibition in Greece, Israeli company SpearUAV presents the NINOX VRS, an encapsulated tactical UAS (Unmanned Aerial System). Ready for use at the press of a button, this tactical drone system was designed for launch from stationary and mobile platforms, such as tanks, IFV and more, even on the move.

Founded in 2017, Spear is a defense and HLS company that is disrupting the world of unmanned aerial systems with its broad range of solutions, which are used by the military, government, and civilian organizations around the globe. Spear is the single source supplier for several projects with the Israeli MOD. Coming from civilian and military backgrounds, the Spear team combines expertise in areas such as drones, aerospace, AI, software, communications, and more.

Intuitive and easy to operate, the NINOX VRS is a tactical multi-drone system that requires no prior piloting experience. It can be launched from stationary and mobile platforms such as Main Battle Tank (MBT), Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), and others, while on the move, using Ninox launcher or with some adjustments, any existing launcher such as a smoke grenade launcher.

The NINOX VRS can be seamlessly integrated into existing infrastructure to support semi-autonomous decision-making by command, with human intervention.

The NINOX VRS has a flight time of 40 minutes and is capable to carry a payload of up to 1 kg in wind speeds of up to 34 km/h, this ruggedized system is payload agnostic. It has SIGINT/VISINT, relay and non-lethal weapons capabilities and can be integrated with other advanced payloads to provide ultimate field dominance.

The tube launcher has a size from 300 to 600 mm with a weight from 0.25 to 1.7 kg. The drone has a weight from 0.246 to 2.25 kg with a payload from 0.2 to 1 kg. The communication system enables the control of the drone with a range from 3 to 7 km.

Spear has also developed the NINOX 4 System, a micro tactical drone system specifically designed for single-user operation. It can be launched from handheld or standard 40mm grenade launchers. Featuring an encapsulated drone and control unit, the Ninox 40 weights under 250 gr. It has up to 35 minutes of flight capability and extensive ISTAR capabilities with a low noise level, low thermal signature, and low RCS.

At DEFEA 2021, a defense exhibition in Greece, MBDA proposes a mobile coastal defense system based on an 8x8 military truck chassis fitted with a container launcher unit with four canisters for Exocet French-built anti-ship missile.

The Exocet mobile coastal defense system provides rapidly relocatable, vehicle mounted capabilities to deny access to surface threats in littoral and strategic areas. The system is based on the latest version of the EXOCET MM40 BLOCK 3 missile which is in service with several navies around the world.

The Block 3 missile accepts GPS guidance system waypoint commands, which allow it to attack naval targets from different angles and to strike land targets, giving it a marginal role as a land-attack missile. The Block 3 Exocet is lighter than the previous MM40 Block 2 Exocet.

The EXOCET MM40 BLOCK 3 is further enhanced by the accuracy of its new navigation package which allows for optimized 3D approach trajectories and terminal attacks from different azimuths at a very low sea-skimming altitude. Terminal guidance relies on a sophisticated J-band active RF seeker to discriminate and select targets at sea and on GPS accuracy for littoral targets.

The EXOCET MM40 BLOCK 3 missile has a weight of 780 kg, a length of less than 6 m, and a diameter of 350 mm. The missile has an effective operational range of 200 km.

The Exocet mobile coastal defense system comprises its own sensors (radar, EOS, AIS) for autonomous operations and/or connection to a wider C3I system. A battery includes one Mobile Sensors Unit, one Mobile Control Unit, and two Mobile Firing Units each with 4 missiles.

Israeli Company Rafael exhibits its Drone Dome at DEFEA 2021, International Defense Exhibition in Greece. The counter-drone system is designed to provide effective airspace defense against hostile drones (Micro and Nano UAVs) used by terrorists to perform aerial attacks, collect intelligence, and other intimidating activities.

Today's airspace is constantly threatened by hostile drones, causing serious security concerns to both military and civilian sites. Israeli company Rafael has leveraged years of air defense experience to develop the Drone Dome system and end-to-end solution for securing airspace from hostile drones.

The DRONE DOME is capable of identifying unknown targets, generating alerts (based on an adaptable rules generator), and operating without causing interference to non-target airborne assets by utilizing specific jammer bandwidth and an advanced directional antenna. This is a significant asset of the DRONE DOME system when operating in highly congested airspaces (civilian or military). DRONE DOME is a modular system and can be used as a stationary or mobile configuration, as well as customized per the customer's request.

The Drone Dome can be operated in all weather conditions and can detect targets as small as 0.0002 m² at a distance of 3.5 km. It is an operational, combat-proven, off-the-shelf system providing 360° coverage with soft and hard-kill capabilities.

In the DRONE DOME’s laser-based intercept phase, the laser director receives the target position from the C4I, which allocates it to the laser effector. The effector then locks and tracks the target, and within a few seconds, the laser beam is transmitted and destroys the target. The system can interface with various external systems and also supports future growth options, which include additional sensors and effectors.

The Iron Dome is fully modular and can be configured as a mobile or stationary unit, as well as customized per the customer's request. It can be used by a single operator to detect, track, identify and neutralize hostile drones. It has block drones' communication channels with Reactive Jamming technology including the Global Navigation Satellite System.

On July 14, Greek company EODH, a specialist in armoring and protection systems, signed an important partnership agreement with KMW, so enhancing their long-lasting cooperation. The vehicle that benefits from this enhanced protection, which is already outstandingly high, is the Dingo 2 (D-Force ASPIS).

As KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann) points out, in spite of several Dingo 2s heavily damaged by IEDs or mines in operation, be it in Afghanistan or in the Sahel region, not a single crew member has ever been killed inside of this exceptional vehicle which is based on a Unimog chassis. This is the first unique record. The second one is that not a single Dingo 2 has ever been abandoned after having been even very badly damaged by an IED or mine: all of them were brought back home, repaired and returned to service. No other vehicle manufacturer in the world can claim such an achievement.

To explain why not a single fatal injury is to deplore in a Dingo 2, KMW explains that the German way of considering human protection in an armored vehicle is much more demanding than in other countries: aiming at only protecting the crew members’ lives is not enough: a soldier must not only remain alive but also remain able to fight after exiting from a heavily damaged Dingo 2 (or some other German-made armored vehicles). This has a cost in terms of designing the entire protection of the vehicle but KMW considers it as a basic principle. Hence Dingo 2 is the benchmark of its vehicle class.

In order to anticipate the upcoming challenges and threats in tomorrow’s operations, special materials and technologies, innovative and protective modules designed and tested by EODH make a protected vehicle even more protected. The ASPIS technology of EODH opens various modular or holistic options, all customized: passive protection, multifunctional and modular passive protection, mine protection, seats, transparent passive protection, IED passive protection, spall liner and liner passive protection, composite passive protection, active protection systems, and reactive protection systems.

The prototype D-Force ASPIS presented by EODH at DEFEA 2021, integrated on a Dingo 2, offers an increased modular ballistic protection compared to the original vehicle (already very efficiently protected), which does not affect its flexibility, performance and payload capacity.

At DEFEA 2021, Rafael is showcasing a number of solutions for naval applications, among which the recently unveiled Sea Breaker.

In June, Rafael unveiled Sea Breaker, a 5th Generation, Maritime & Land-based Long-Range Attack Weapon System. Sea Breaker is a naval and artillery unit force-multiplier, designed to overcome the modern warfare arena challenges, using Rafael’s legacy of high-end precision-guided solutions.

Sea Breaker provides surgical, pin-point precision strikes from stand-off ranges of up to 300 km. The missile utilizes an advanced all weather IIR (Imaging Infra-Red) seeker, ideal for engagement of maritime and land targets, stationary or moving, in advanced Anti Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) arenas, and in littoral or brown water, including archipelago, as well as for engagements in which previous generation RF-seeker-based missiles are not effective.

Sea Breaker can be launched from naval platforms, varying in size, from fast attack missile boats, to corvettes and frigates. The land version is a central part of the shore defense, based on Rafael’s highly-mobile SPYDER launchers. The battery architecture supports standalone launchers, or operation as an integrated solution, with a command and control Unit (CCU) and various sensors, based on customer requirements.

Using Artificial Intelligence, Sea Breaker performs deep-learning and big data-based scene-matching, a unique combat-proven Rafael technology, enabling Automatic Target Acquisition (ATA) and Automatic Target Recognition (ATR). The system has full operational capability in GNSS-denied arenas, in all weather conditions. The missile is ECM immune and jam-resilient. Sea Breaker’s mission profile enables sea-skimming and terrain-following low-level flight above ground.

Flying at high subsonic speeds, Sea Breaker has a multi-directional, synchronized full sphere attack capability, based on predefined attack plans, according to waypoints, azimuth, impact angle and aim point selection, ensuring a high probability of mission success, with a 250 lb. penetration, blast and fragmentation warhead, making a single hit effective enough to neutralize a frigate-sized ship.

The joint venture RAM-System GmbH, owned by MBDA Deutschland (50%), Diehl Stiftung (25%) and Diehl BGT Defence (25%), displays RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile at DEFEA 2021, held in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 15 July 2021.

RAM is a cooperative program between the U.S. and German governments with industry support from Raytheon and RAMSYS of Germany.

The RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) is a small, lightweight, infrared homing surface-to-air missile in use by the German, Japanese, Greek, Turkish, South Korean, Saudi Arabian, Egyptian, Mexican and U.S. Navies. It was intended originally and used primarily as a point-defense weapon against anti-ship cruise missiles.

As its name indicates, RAM rolls as it flies. The missile must roll during flight because the RF tracking system uses a two-antenna interferometer that can measure phase interference of the electromagnetic wave in one plane only. The rolling interferometer permits the antennas to look at all planes of incoming energy. In addition, because the missile rolls, only one pair of steering canards is required. As of 2005, it is the only U.S. Navy missile to operate in this manner.

The RIM-116 Missile has a length of 2.8 meters, a diameter of 127 millimeters, and a weight of 74 kg.

The Israeli firm Elbit Systems showcases a model of the Seagull USV during the Defence Exhibition DEFEA 2021. Elbit Systems Ltd. is an Israel-based international defense electronics company engaged in a wide range of programs throughout the world.

The Seagull Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) systems have superior mine counter measures (MCM) capability. This USV facilitates end-to-end mine hunting operations, including detection, classification, location, identification and neutralization of bottom, moored and drifting sea mines while taking the sailor out of the mine field.

The Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capability provides the navy with a significant tactical advantage by effectively deterring and threatening enemy submarines using an available asset with significantly lower risk.

Featuring switchable, modular mission payload suites, Seagull can perform ASW and MCM, electronic warfare (EW), maritime security (MS), hydrography and other missions using the same vessels, mission control system and data links.

Drawing on decades of Elbit Systems’ unmanned systems experience and leadership, Seagull offers navies a true force multiplier. Seagull delivers enhanced performance to naval operations, reducing risk to human life and dramatically cutting procurement and operating costs.

The Seagull is armed with a 12.7 mm remote controlled weapon system, torpedo launching system and a nonlethal weapon system. It also features electronic support measures (ESM) and electronic counter measures (ECM), electro-optical sensor, expendable mine disposal vehicles and diver's neutralization system.

The Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd., is participating in DEFEA 2021, July 13-15, at Metropolitan Expo, Athens, Greece. Rafael showcases a number of solutions for naval applications, like the C-Dome.

Rafael’s C-Dome is the naval adaptation of the combat-proven IRON DOME, which has achieved over 4000 combat interceptions.

The C-Dome is designed to protect strategic naval and land assets against advanced aerial, ballistic and surface-to-surface threats and it is operational with the Israeli Navy.

C-Dome uses the combat-proven Iron Dome interceptor that has already achieved more than 1,500 successful interceptions.

It is maintenance-free and is stored in a sea-proof canister. Up to 10 C-Dome can be loaded into a modular Vertical Launcher Unit.

Interceptor are vertically launched with unrestricted 360° azimuth coverage. The highly advanced warhead ensures high kill probability against a wide range of targets. The C-Dome interceptor is extremely agile and with a high rate-of-turn enabling intercepting of even the most maneuverable targets. Its state-of-the-art proximity fuze maximizes lethality and its powerful warhead ensures target destruction.

It is designed to protect vessels in blue and littoral waters from ballistic trajectory and direct attack weapons fired in saturation attacks.

C-Dome includes a 10-round canister loaded with vertically-launched Tamir interceptors for 360-degree coverage, a feature not supported by the land-based Iron Dome system; the ship's own surveillance radar is used to negate the need for a dedicated fire control radar.

The system has a small footprint to enable installation on small ships like offshore patrol vessels, corvettes, and even stationary oil rigs.

The Israeli military declared initial operational capability for the C-Dome on 27 November 2017, after more than 18 months of integration and design work.

The Greek company SAS Technology, a subsidiary of Spirit Aeronautical System, unveils its new quadcopter combat drone named SARISA SRS-1A , armed with HYDRA 70mm rockets at DEFEA 2021, International Defense Exhibition in Greece.

The SARISA is a heavy-weight UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) with a maximum takeoff weight of approx. 25 kg. It has a payload capacity that can reach 25 kg.

The SARISA can be fitted with various interchangeable payload racks allowing quick configuration for different types of missions. It can be configured as a combat-armed drone fitted with a platform able to carry various weapon systems. It can be also configured as a cargo vehicle or to conduct aerial spraying missions with a sprayer tank rack.

At DEFEA 2021, S.A.S. Technology displays its SARISA SRS-1A in tactical configuration fitted with a twin rocket launcher rack armed with 2.75-inch diameter HYDRA 70 rockets. It can be equipped with a variety of warheads, and in more recent versions, guidance systems for point attacks.AH-64

The Hydra rocket is widely used by NATO countries usually carried by light attack helicopters AH-64 or aircraft. The rocket system can be installed on most rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, such as the AH-64 Apache, AH-1Z Viper, AH-1 Cobra, OH-58 Kiowa, UH-60 Black Hawk, P-3 Orion, MH-6 Little Bird, A-10 Thunderbolt II, AV-8B Harrier II, UH-1 Iroquois, F-4 Phantom II, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet, OV-10 Bronco, A-4 Skyhawk and A-6 Intruder.

The SRAISA SRS-1A fitted with HYDRA rockets can be carried on a light tactical vehicle and can be used to conduct fire support missions. It can be also used simultaneously for tactical missions and can be easily reconfigured as a cargo carrier to resupply forward units.

The SRISA SRS-1A is designed as a quadcopter drone with a length of 165 cm, a width of 218 cm, and a height of 45 cm. It has a maximum flight time of 20 min.

As part of the Greek procurement of four frigates, the German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems showcases a model of the Meko A-2OO frigate, during DEFEA 2021, Athens.

The MEKO A-200 Frigate, follows the famous MEKO 200 series general purpose frigates from the ThyssenKrupp stable. A fighting ship capable of full 4-dimensional warfare (AAW, ASW and ASuW, BCW), the MEKO A-200 Frigate is also designed for sustained operations across the full spectrum of general missions and tasks: patrol and interdiction, support of special force operations, SAR and humanitarian operations.

The MEKO A-200 Frigate is a perfect example of the innovative propulsion, stealth and survivability design, robust sea-keeping and all-weather boat and helicopter operability that characterizes frigates from Marine Systems.

The frigate features the revolutionary CODAG-WARP (Water jet and Refined Propellers) propulsion system: two CPP propeller shafts driven by cross-connectable diesel engines plus a center-line gas turbine-driven water jet, combining the power of each drive in the water without the need of a combining gearbox. This arrangement allows for extremely quiet acoustic signatures, a high degree of propulsion redundancy and damage survivability.

The propulsion arrangement also provides, in the diesel-only mode, an extremely economic solution, whereby one engine can drive both shafts for a ship’s speed of 18 knots. This means that the ship will spend most of its life on a single diesel engine, bringing a significant reduction in through-life propulsion costs.

The MEKO A-200 has greatly reduced radar, IR, acoustic and magnetic signatures to hide and stay hidden: The X-Form shell design; extensive bulwark screening of exposed equipment; flush-closing shell doors, and RCSnet screening of all shell openings, give the vessel very low radar cross-section.

At DEFEA 2021, which takes place from 13 to 15 July, the Israel Shipyards displays a model of the Reshef-class vessel. The Israeli company is one of the largest shipbuilding and repair facilities in the eastern Mediterranean.

The Reshef Class vessels, will be based on the ISL S-72 proven design.

The SAAR 72 is a multi-mission vessel using a modular design, in Corvette configuration, she can be used to conduct naval warfare missions. In OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessel), she can be armed with lighter weaponry.

The SAAR S-72 is a stealth multi-purpose corvette derived from the Saar 4.5 missile boats fully designed by Israeli Shipyards. The ship has a length of 72 meters and a displacement of 800 tons. She has an endurance of 21 days with a crew of 50 people including officers and sailors. It can also accommodate 20 passengers or commandos.

The SAAR 72 are powered by two shaft power plant consisting of two MTU 16V1163M94 V16 diesel engines with a capacity of 5920 kW. The ship can reach a maximum speed of about 30 knots and has a cruising range of 3,300 nm (5.500 km).

The vessels will significantly empower the Israeli Navy capabilities in the future combat field and will assist in protecting Israel’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) as well as the off shore oil & gas facilities within Israel’s territorial waters. All combat systems on board the new ship will be of Israel’s defense industry produce.

General Robotics displays an Israeli-designed ultralight (85 kg) Remotely Controlled Weapon Station designed to be mounted on any type of vehicle, including quads, as well as air and naval platforms.

The azimut rotation works at a rate of 90° per second. The elevation ranges from approximately +60° to -30°, depending on the machine gun mounted on the RWS which is stabilized in both axes. The MGs that can be mounted on the Pitbull are as diversified as the FN Minimi 5.56mm, FN MAG 7.62mm or FN HB 12.7mm, Negev 5.56 or 7.62mm, and other MGs of the same calibers. The power consumption to operate the MG is very low.

Regarding situational awareness by day and night, the Pitbull is fitted with thermal imaging with continuous optical zoom and autofocus, an eye-safe laser range finder, two rear cameras for weapon and ammunition management, and automatic tracking and video motion detection.

The Ranger Remote Control Unit (RCU) is an all-in-one model with a touch screen, jacket with buttons and built-in « point to point » secured communication, integrated « Point and Shoot » technology, and multi-layered firing safety system. In option, it can be detached for remote wireless activation.

Also in option, it can get an integrated anti-drone jammer and be integrated into radars and fire source detectors.

Slovak company Konstrukta Defence unveils its latest generation of sanitary vehicle UNIKAR.01 during DEFEA 2021, the International Defense Exhibition that was held in Greece from 13 to 15 July 2021.

Konstrukta Defence is a Slovak research and development company that hires a team of project-oriented engineers dealing with design, development, system integration and certification of land and air defense weapon systems, ammunition, command and fire control systems, electronic systems and other special modified bodies, wheeled and tracked chassis of army vehicles.

At DEFEA 2021, Konstrukta Defence has unveiled the UNIKAR-01, a sanitary vehicle based on the Unimog U-4023 4x4 light tactical truck. The vehicle is fitted with proven medical equipment that can be used on the battlefield.

The design of the vehicle consists of a crew cabin at the front with three seats and a container mounted a the rear of the chassis that can accommodate a medical team of three people. The medical container unit has the capacity to carry four stretchers as well as three seating patients.

The vehicle is fitted with a KHAKI coating according to STANAG 7094 and AECIP-300 that provides climatic and corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and chemical agents.

The UNIKAR.01 is based on the Unimog U-4023 designed and manufactured by the German company Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle is powered by an OM 934 LA coupled to a UG 100/8 transmission. It can reach a maximum road speed of 90 km. The vehicle has a maximum weight of 10,300 kg.
