What's new about 2021 car taxes?

The new car taxes will still be based on taxation of the car's price from the factory. But with the tax changes coming into force on 18 December 2020, a clear "green" element will be added - namely a CO2-based supplement to the tax. There are many new or changed elements when the tax is calculated - and thus on the car's final purchase price.
The most important elements are:

  • 3 tax
steps in taxable value Instead of the current two tax steps, there will in future be three. Of the first DKK 65,000 incl. VAT is paid only 25 percent, the next DKK 65,000-202,200 is paid 85% of and over DKK 202,200 150% is paid. The battery deduction will not change and will, as in 2020, be a deduction in the taxable value, and thus not a direct deduction on the car, ie. DKK 1,700 per kWh (dog max, 45 kWh). The deduction will disappear from 2022 onwards.
  • CO2 surcharge
The first change in isolation makes cars cheaper. But then comes a new element - namely a CO2 surcharge on the registration tax, which is based on how much CO2 the car emits per. km. Ie. if you buy an electric car, then there will be no surcharge, and if you buy a Mustang, which emits a tremendous amount of CO2 per. km. then it will have a large CO2 surcharge in the registration tax.
  • Phasing in
Electric cars and plug-in hybrids get a very long phasing-in period with extra discounts on top of their already low tax. In 2021, electric cars will get a discount of 60% and plug-in hybrids 55%. The discount will be gradually reduced, so that by 2030 it is down to 20 percent for both engine types .
  • Bottom deduction
A bottom deduction is also introduced on ALL cars at the end. It will be low for conventional cars, half high for plug-in hybrids and high for electric cars. For the two types of "green" cars, the deduction will be phased out over time.
  • Continued cheap electricity The tax rebate on process electricity
continues, so that an ordinary electric car user will save DKK 2,550 on average on taxes by charging his car.
  • The owner's tax will increase and change in the future
The equalization tax will increase on average for diesel cars by DKK 300 and the owner's tax will be gradual (percentage) over the coming years and applies to all taxable cars. The owner's tax is also changed for cars registered from 1 July 2021. Instead of being calculated on the basis of how far the car runs on one liter of petrol / diesel, it is differentiated according to how many grams of CO2 the car emits per day. driven kilometers.

Calculation based on taxable value

The car's steel price incl. VAT is calculated on the basis of 2 scale breaks today after a possible battery deduction minus the taxable value.
Example of a car with a 39 kWh battery with a steel price of DKK 316,300 incl. VAT:
316,300 - DKK 66,300 = DKK 250,000
● 25% of DKK 65,000 = DKK 16,250
● 85% of DKK 137,200 = DKK 116,620
● 150% of DKK 47,800 = DKK 71,700

Total = DKK 204,570.
