Egypt is the first country in Africa and the Middle East to have a camera on the International Space Station (ISS), CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency Mohamed el Koosy said on Saturday 9/1/2021.

Koosy told MENA after his meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Communications Minister Amr Talaat that Egypt takes unprecedented steps in the space technology domain.

Koosy revealed details of the Egyptian Space Agency's winning of a competition, organized by the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), to design a camera on the ISS.

He pointed out that 13 Egyptian engineers and technicians manufactured 100 percent Egyptian high-tech camera, which will allow Egypt to get satellite images with high resolution for free after its installation.

Regarding the Tiba-1 satellite, he said it would fully operate in the second half of 2021 and support the State's efforts in development, digitization, combating crime and terrorism, and improving internet service in remote areas.
