The Hyunmoo-5 ballistic missile was displayed at a military parade to mark the 76th anniversary of the South Korean Armed Forces. The Hyunmoo-5 missile system is currently the most powerful in South Korea. The Hyunmoo-5 missile is capable of carrying an 8-9 ton conventional warhead and penetrating deep into the ground, destroying underground bunkers. The Hyunmoo-5 missile weighs about 36 tons and is capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 3.5 thousand kilometers. By reducing the weight of the warhead, the missile’s range could be about 5,000 kilometers. The missile has independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), allowing it to hit multiple targets. The Hyunmoo surface-to-surface missile is considered one of the key assets in the three-axis deterrence structure against North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.

Where did you get that infos? Some are unheard of, any trustable sources?

8-9t warhead max range est. ~300km
1t warhead max range est. ~3,000km
1,000 lbs (500kg) warhead est. ~5,500km

Targetable MIRV? Never seen such a claim before.
Warhead structure, penetrator material composition and how it works is classified. Unconfirmed speculation: heavy metal hardened penetrator (single rod or several blocks unknown) with small blast explosive devices.

@Chocopie could you make a compilation of all Hyunmoo missiles' photos in order?

Keep in mind: Hyunmoo designations (Latin letters or numerals) from IV to V with variant-digits are all unofficial, unconfirmed guesses of Korean media. Some Hyunmoo-II and -IV variants look alike twins from the outside.
Please note: images of some variants are missing bc never disclosed.

Basic rough overview:

Hyunmoo-I is a US Nike Hercules surface-to-air missile modified to surface-to-surface

Hyunmoo-III versions are all CRUISE MISSILES

Hyunmoo-II / -IV / -V versions are BALLISTIC MISSILES (pics via Mason twitter, low to semi-trustable source).

Hope it helps, sometimes it's confusing with all these variants under the same Hyunmoo missile family name.

Hyunmoo-5: The 9-axle / 18-wheels TEL has steerable wheels up to 45 degree angle which enables astonishing maneuverability. The launch tube has an est. length of 20m

Well,
Jane’s defence has an article on it too.
It states as 3000km range, twin stage, 8000kg payload, 16m long and 1.6m diameter.
That places it well in to MRBM territory.

Army Recognition site states a 75 ton thrust level with cold launch capability.
Also it states that the missile is equipped with advanced re-entry capabilities, such as Maneuverable Re-entry Vehicle (MaRV) and Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) systems.

Naval News state that it‘s payload is as heavy as 9000kg and it can destroy bunkers 100m below surface. During downward ballistic flight it reaches 10 Mach speed.

Well hats off to our South Korean brothers. Great stuff!

Jane’s and NN are solid sources & professionally managed.

I wouldn‘t trust Army Recognition as a trustable source. It‘s often full of errors bc an AI scrambles open sources bits together and makes an article out of it.

MaRV is possible, Hyunmoo-2C variant uses a warhead with fins like Pershing II.
Hyunmoo-2A/B warheads are said to have evading features like Iskander-M.

MIRV is in my opinion fake news. Never heard of that in Korean defense circles about Hyunmoo-5 or other Korean ballistic missiles.
