Serious question...

is it really necessary to have this much quadcopter and unmanned ground vehicle projects from many different companies? It seems like turkish defence sector wasting their limited resources. same can be said about some other stuff such as armed vehicles, radars, sonars. I dont know i might be wrong but at least state affiliated companies should be more carefull about that and work in a less ambitious manner. Because i can see the competition grow day by day. What do you think?

A single company doing all the development/production for a type of product such as drone will very quickly lead to stagnation. This is what we did see MKEK which had monopoly in their field. That resulted in stagnation for very long time which had a catastrophic result for us. Not just by MKEK but our general society were very stagnant for centuries. This stagnant society is actually extremely un-turkish since we all know that we love to find solutions to any problem.

To much competition will obviously lead to that some over-production which may result in wasted resources but these will sort itself. Also, I rather waste Turkish monetary resources during peace-time than not having the technical tools during crisis-time. In reality, we are actually not even wasting resources since the actual resource is the human capital which we develop by working on these products so every project is adding to this wealth.

So, it is better to have 2-3 companies doing development/production of any type of product. This is specially try for our military companies since there is also a very big export market which can support these companies by taking some market share other countries. The biggest problem is that some of the old companies are stuck in the old fashion way of working by either just producing license product or just straight out copy other products without any innovative addition. Here MKEK is again one of the old companies which really need to change. Just look at the CIWS equivalent they presented here, it is just a straight copy. In a competitive environment, these type of companies should disappear by market forces but in this case we are wasting tax money on them.

So, I like that we have 2-3 companies developing similar products since it will actually strengthen all companies. With strong companies, we can start developing unique products.

I think everyone agrees that this is a serious problem. There is an untold and unnecesary competition between de defence companies and we have a lot of overlapping projects. (last example is Levent and Gokdeniz ER.) Competition is good but the situation becames ridicilous.

This problem needs to be solved and our companies needs to work together, not against each other. (especially for expensive and time consuming projects)

Gökdeniz-ER will probably be offered as a premium product. Its missiles will be based on Bozdogan WVR which means it will be very expensive. The number of missiles is halved to counter this problem but it will still be more expensive than 21 missiles of Levent. Gökdeniz-ER also has 4xAESA radars for 360-degree coverage which will be another set of expensive sensors. I think we should use Gokdeniz-ER for very valuable assets such as LHDs, or aircraft carriers. Where you won't think much about cost-effectiveness or assets like FACs that doesn't have VLS cells or gun-based CIWS. We can also make use of 4x AESA more effectively on a FAC that has a lighter sensor load and those 4x AESAS can see 360 degrees freely on a FAC.

Is it over? Will anyone visit today? Looks like it's the last day. Is it possible to get answers of these questions?
  • Did Khulna Shipyard from BD participate this time? If yes, what's the update on the new shipyard in Taltali, Borguna and two new ASW LPCs?
  • Which Turkish company is participating in our LPC project? Which design they are offering?
  • Is any Turkish company participating in our OPV project? Which design they are offering?
  • Is any Turkish company participating in our frigate project? Which design they are offering?
  • Did AMT really supply design for BN's diving boat? Need to clear the confusion.
  • What will BD get under the MoU with Roketsan?
  • What did Bangladesh Army delegation discuss with ASFAT in IDEF 2021?
  • What did Bangladesh Coast Guard delegation discuss with SEFT in IDEF 2021?
  • Did Bangladesh Army only opt TRG-300 or did they opt any other caliber? Need to confirm.
  • Any update on buying Hisar SAM and UAV/UCAV by Bangladesh Army?
  • Is Bangladesh Army buying 105mm howitzer and attack helicopter?
I suppose it will take time to develop a multi-mode seeker with R/F and IIR ?

*might be incorrect labelling
