My guess is right on the money, the core problem is in BRIN. Someone new of high position in BRIN most likely get money from foreign drone seller. Sabotaged at its finest.

Some higher-ups in BRIN (probably): "Look guys, the project is still going! It's just that you won't be able to use it for military purposes.

The ministry of defence has embarked on an ambitious defence acquisition programme but is struggling to find the funding to honour the contracts it has signed. Airbus, which was set to deliver two A400M by the end of 2021, is the latest company to bear the brunt of this situation. Other deals could also be affected over the coming months as the price of raw materials soars.

Acting Head of the BRIN Aviation Technology Center, Agus Aribowo, argued that changing the direction of research from combatant MALE drones to civilian MALE drones was necessary because BRIN was pessimistic that the military specifications desired by the Indonesian Air Force would be met. He was worried that the MALE drone which was developed based on previous research would not be used.

"From 2024 to 2025 it will be until certification. It seems that BRIN sees that it is still very difficult for us to achieve the operations and specifications desired by the TNI. We are worried that the fate will be the same as the Wulung drone, which in the end only got certified, but is not used by the user, namely the TNI," said Agus to Alinea.id, Monday (28/2).

BRIN was pessimistic that the military specifications desired by the Indonesian Air Force would be met.

And it will never be met now since the project is canceled instead of gradually improving it step by step. F*cking moron!

Have you read what Umigami posted? It looks like the program is not canceled, but the Consortium is disbanded. That's the likely reason we chose to cooperate with UAE as stated by Shin x Vladilena.

Yeah, kinda missed that part. But in my defense, the way BRIN just wants to divert the project to a civilian drone while it has been laid bare in front of their eyes that Dephan and TNI-AU have already been involved in the project from the start almost makes it the same as canceling it altogether.

Any possibilities here of what they are calling as "civilian" is in fact could be "unarmed"?. This is a typical drone development cycle, first you get something up in the air, at 30k altitude, then slap in some weapons as it evolves and matures.

Dump BRIN for UAE expertise?

Man.. i will laugh really hard. UAE expertise in a MALE drone? What kind of operational capability they have so far that they can even envisage development of a MALE drone?
They have great finances, some enthusiastic foreigner managers, this is all.

Only options: approach to Airbus or some US companies for the development.

I did. While I knew that there would be some clashing interests - pre-BRIN formation, that is - but I thought that things would still work out in the end.

If that's the case, the drone was planned to use Turkish armaments, so the culprit most likely not Turkey.

I don't really think so ,neither TAI nor Baykar nor Vestel - but who knows - (the trio which is capable of MALE UAV development and production) is interested in supplying drones to Indonesia anymore, after several failed attempts (not really into detailing, not cool stuff).

Here is why;
TAI - got sufficient customers, more to come and possibly going to open an assembly line in Malaysia
Baykar - busy printing money
Vestel - rebranded and focusing on alternative drones, but who knows? They sold a design to Saudi Arabia.

Probably. But who knows? We can only assume at this point, and will likely remain so until there's an announcement in the coming months that the air force will buy new drones from abroad.

Abroad, aka US, note it aside. Going to end up buying MQ-1 and MQ-9 for ten folds prices of what they could develop with native sources and slight assistance from abroad.
