Norinco make some quality stuff too, and as long as purchase is small arms and infantry weapons it will not matters much in the geopolitical arena.

We could save money buying more of this instead of expensive Javelins.

Norinco is also a manufacturer of highly advanced manpads, maybe long term cooperation could help our own effort with Merapi.
Don't make them fully develope its software, moreover IFF.

I'm indifferent with this... We probably need to buy it in quantity first for ToT (there is no free lunch -- looking at you C-705, RCWS, and MLRS ToT of 2014)

Which nothing came out of them 😅
Exactly (y)

One thing I forgot, we also discussed about ToT of NG-18 CIWS (one package with RCWS and MLRS), while C-705 seems to be a different deal.

They wanted us to buy their missiles in bulk. Something which is hard when we're talking cruise missile. An ATGM comes with a cheaper price tag.

Is Merapi a MANPADS? With that tail and configuration of folding finds it resembled Hydra 70, something like man-launched IR guided APKWS, Cirit.

Or they are deriving prototypes and experimental blocks from Hydra 70's rocket motor and adding guidance and fins to control? Thus the max speed is less than 1 Mach (~650-700m/s) and tail - foldable fin configuration is kept?

Yeah, it's a MANPADS especially if it's going to make it past the prototype phase and be produced in large numbers.
Sorry for the lack of details on the specification, but I think it's stated there that the missile's maximum speed is about 345+ m/s or about Mach 1.

At the moment, I have no idea about its future and will not hold my breath for it to be realized as I mentioned above.

Thanks for the information, yes it does look like Hydra a lot (fins, max speed, dimensions and weight), and it is wise if they used existing knowledge on hydra's rocket motor and design (a well proven design with stability and range). In my opinion a bit slow for a manpads but still it can easily become a multi-purpose missile as air to surface, surface to surface and surface to air modes with minor modifications. I hope they won't miss the bigger picture while focusing at creating a manpads.

Also add different seeker options as IIR,IR and TV then even better for multi-purposes.

Look how long they kept the prototype, the fin already a bit rusty 🤣, did they show the timeline?
