In my opinion, as long as Japan does not provide special guarantees, the cooperation will not work... the country's regulations are complicated

It is better to continue working on the red and white frigate, add & joint cooperation PPA or FDI if given an attractive offer

About FFM offers, will MoD negotiate to get the mk41? If not, will Japanese agree to use European subsystem or from another supplier.

This country needs to learn from the case of thailand warship and s26t submarine

These 2 items have disappointed Thailand, the htms bhumibol is said to be underperforming and the s26t as we know is not in accordance with the agreement using German mtu engines.

Don't let what will be purchased not even work like the case of nagapasa or the red and white frigate which always changes the mission system specifications.

This is one of the main issues that must be addressed first if Japan is truly eager to pursue the joint development of their frigate - as well as other potential defence collaboration projects in the future - with Indonesia.

It will be more difficult for them to gain interests if they keep insisting on using only Japanese-made subsystems within the frigate hulls.

Say's who..? Rafale a400 m ae kebeli the importent is political will as long as their loan landing available 😁
Air force & Navy are target focus 08, but for navy, already lot of project to fill the fleet. seeking another source mean must create another source of funding. maybe if japan gave us reliable n low cost loan it can happen.

Government to propose joint development of maritime self-defense force vessels to Indonesia again...negotiations stalled under former Jokowi administration

2024/12/31 10:04

The government has decided to propose joint development of maritime self-defense force vessels to Indonesia again. The proposal is aimed at escort ships, which Indonesia has shown interest in, and Defense Minister Nakatani will visit Indonesia in early January 2025 to convey the proposal to Defense Minister Shahri Shamsuddin. The aim is to strengthen security cooperation with Southeast Asian countries.

Defense Minister Nakatani lays the groundwork with visit in January

Multiple Japanese government officials revealed this. The Indonesian government is highly interested in submarines as well as escort ships, and has been in discussions toward joint development for several years. However, under the former Jokowi administration, negotiations stalled due to the large amount of money invested in the capital relocation.

Prime Minister's Office

In October, former Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, who is familiar with the negotiations, became president of Indonesia. Nakatani will visit Indonesia from January 5th to 8th to confirm whether the new administration intends to negotiate with the country. Prime Minister Ishiba is also scheduled to visit immediately after, and Nakatani's visit will pave the way for the summit meeting.

The operational guidelines for the Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology limit the export of finished products to five types: rescue, transportation, alert, surveillance, and minesweeping. Since destroyers and submarines do not fall under the five types, the current guidelines do not allow the export of finished products as is, and the proposal to proceed with the transfer in the form of joint development is the most likely. Main circumstances surrounding security cooperation between Japan and Indonesia While Indonesia places importance on its relationship with China, with which it has strong economic ties, it is increasingly wary of China's unilateral advancement in the South China Sea. Prabowo visited Japan in April immediately after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, and confirmed the strengthening of security cooperation with then Prime Minister Kishida. If joint development is realized, it will be a major pillar of strengthening strategic cooperation in the field of maritime security.

A bit off topic:

To save your time translating the news from Japan to English in the future, Yomiuri Shimbun has an English publication. It was called Daily Yomiuri before renamed as Japan News in 2013.

Here's the same story but in English: https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/politics/defense-security/20250101-230765/

KSAL Reveals Proposal for Additional 2 New Fleet Commands Still Under Review

Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali revealed that the Indonesian Navy is still reviewing the proposal for the additional formation of two Fleet Command (Koarmada) work areas.

This, said Ali, is in response to President Prabowo Subianto's desire when he was still serving as Minister of Defense (Menhan) for the 2019-2024 period, to have five Joint Defense Area Commands (Kogabwilhan).

"Regarding the five Koarmada, this was indeed the president's desire when he was Minister of Defense. He said that he would build five Kogabwilhan and he hoped that there would be five Koarmadas," said Ali to the media crew in Jakarta, Friday (3/1).

However, the Indonesian Navy is still considering whether the existence of the two new Koarmadas will be on land or mobile, namely being able to move depending on the developing situation.

"We are still considering whether (all) five Koarmadas will be on land, because currently there are three. Maybe the two Koarmadas will be mobile, depending on the developing situation. So, we can continue to move, like a sea base. That's what we think," he explained.

Until now, Kogabwilhan is divided into three, namely Kogabwilhan I, which is based in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands; Kogabwilhan II is based in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan; and Kogabwilhan III in Timika, Central Papua.

Meanwhile, the Koarmada work area is divided into Koarmada I, Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands; Koarmada II, Surabaya, East Java; and Koarmada III, Sorong, Southwest Papua. (at)
