Iran will never have nuclear weapons. This is not a solemn vow a la Mossad chief David Barnea, just a reflection of reality. The rulers of Tehran know it. Fiery rhetoric aside, they are sober and rational. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, a successful investor in the political market, has acknowledged as much. Iran’s leaders may dream of nuclear warheads on parade in Tehran, but they know enough to realize that waking up from the dream will be cold and cruel. This is the Persian paradox: The closer they seem to their destination, the worse off they are, because the friction it creates makes further movement unbearable. The prize will always remain beyond their grasp.
