WARSAW, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Poland signed a $2.6 billion deal to buy more than 150 more South Korean K9 howitzers, Poland's State Armament Agency said on Friday.

Under the agreement with Hanwha Defence, Poland will acquire another six self-propelled K9 howitzers in 2025, and 146 self-propelled howitzers of the K9PL version in 2026-2027, the agency said.

A howitzer is a type of artillery that fires a shell in a high arc.

The contract also includes a training and logistics package and delivery of a significant stock of 155mm ammunition, numbering tens of thousands of rounds, it said."

This is the second deal, First was made for 212 K9A1 to be supplied to Poland in 2022-2026

Each K-9 costs around 8-9 million per howitzer, so that would be a very big number of K-9s. Around 250-300 pieces at least!

Yeah, K-9 is cheap but its a basic Howitzer, thats why this time Poland oredered only 6 K9A1 (to complete existing units) and 146 K9PL which is a little closer to Krab and of course will be little more expensive.

K-9 howitzer is one of the best tracked howitzers out there in the market alongside the american M109, and french Caesar. An important deal for Poland.

The K9PL version is expected to equip the howitzers with, among others: a laser radiation warning system with an OBRA-3 smoke grenade launcher, as well as an automatic fire and explosion extinguishing and suppression system, filtering and ventilation systems, air conditioning, additional displays for the crew and relocation of the power generator to the chassis.
