I found out something while scrolling through the Internet.

As Everybody knows BMC Vuran is a Israeli made Vehicle and the License has been bought from Carmor.

> I wasn't aware that OTOKAR COBRA 2 was following the same path.

"Designs have been drawn up for a radically enhanced version of the Otokar Cobra armoured patrol vehicle, based on AM General's XM1211 ECV II evolutionary concept vehicle, a growth version of the US Army's High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). The US Army has ordered 15 examples of the ECV II, which it is due to start testing at Aberdeen Proving Ground in January 2008."

The base of the car was the XM1211 Expanded Capacity Vehicle II (ECV II) chassis manufactured by AM General - an improved version of the one used in the HMMWV. The main differences of the new chassis:

  • increased ground clearance;
  • removable parabolic armor plate under the bottom of the fighting compartment to increase mine protection;
  • semi-active suspension with the ability to adjust the clearance (it can be reduced for loading into a transport aircraft);
  • increased double bottom of the fighting compartment for increased mine resistance.

I remember that AM General’s vehicle is prepared by collobration with Otokar as AM General’s offer for Humvee replacement. Meanwhile Cobra 2 introduced. I think she’s code named as Cobra 1.5.

All or lets say most of the companies started small with most of the help got from abroad , not something to be ashamed of .
Bmc fnss otokar and the rest of the companies in turkey .
This situation is not only in turkey , but turkey is one of the few countries that decided to take a step ahead and start to design and produce their own weapons with 100 percent turkish design and over 90 percent of domestic materials thanks to the turkish engineers .
And lately good news came from tumosana and bmc power , soon power packages will be available and turkey will be on another level .
The thing is all companies try their best to make products with a high domistic rate only otokar to set aside and keep their old fashion work .
I hope that they will start to work on new product with high domistic contribution but i think they are more interesting in money than putting hard work to create stuff suitable for the turkish contry requirments
Now i am sure that some people will be like oooh bmc boight designs and they take all the bids .
And i will be like here we go again .
Haha people should open their eyes .
Fnss also got a lot of bids with their new high rate domistic contribution vehicles , and they also integrated tumosan domistic engines .
Lets hope otokar get in the game again because that would make turkey stronger but with their current mentality but i dont think so

Cobra 1 was based on the HMMWV chassis too. Makes sense that Cobra 2 is based on the enhanced HMMWV chassis.

Cobra 2 has nothing to do with anyone. Americans won't ever sell IP rights of their military products. There are laws in place to stop that. On the other hand, it is true that Otokar uses AM chassis.

I hope TSK will not buy everything BMC produce.

Well. I don't think their is an alternative for the BMC Tulga in the country.
it is safe to say that this Vehicle is being developed specifically for the needs of the Security Forces.

BMC CEO Öztürk announced, "The technical features of the vehicle were as desired. We successfully launched it. This will continue, this was the first version. There are different versions, we will make about 7 versions.

> 7 Versions! I don't think they would risk that if they weren't sure a procurement would be made.
---------------------------------

- The only thing that is apparent is that something is not going right with the development.
According to the CEO in 18.09.2019 the development has commenced in 2017 and they expect serial production of the Pickup to start in the 1st week of January 2020.

"
We will probably go into mass production in the first week of January 2020. If nothing goes wrong, our first goal is the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we plan to give it to them. We even have the possibility to see these vehicles in security measures on the Syrian border."

> But 1.5 Years Later. Nothing.

Design of Otokar Cobra II is solely from Otokar itself.

The base (chassis) is from AM General (I think licensed)

It's the opposite for BMC. The chassis is BMC designed and developed, HATEHOF developed the armoured shell. Turkey at the time didn't have means to test ballistics in accordance to international regulations. Otokar would send out the vehicle to Germany and US to test ballistics for instance..

I believe Otokar only just recently gained the capability to test ballistics domestically. Not sure about BMC or other armoured vehicle producers.

There is something off about the design of Tulga but I can't put my finger on it. It doesn't feel like it could meet the military expectations.(I am very well aware that the aesthetic design doesn't mean anything when it's come to technical performance)

To me it looks a little bit low and I have the feel that it might stuck on its middle part and wheels losing contact with the ground on a terrain with steep heels. It may not be the case but that's how it looks to me. I really like the tires of Tulga. A little higher and shorter version will most probably be an offroad beast.

Anything? It means everything!
Have you guys ever notice that the “best looking” design of any kind of weapons/-systems, are almost the best system in the same way. Doesn’t matter if we talk about a rifle, tank , ship or a plane. Their must be a correlation between performance and “aesthetic” design.

> Perhaps its the windshield, which is isn't curved due to bullet resistant glass.

- Usually Cars like that are not build from the ground but rather modified to withstand bullets.

Here is an Example from Israel

The Musketeer MLAV armored car is based on the well-proven Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 off-road chassis, on which a new all-welded body made of armored steel was installed

I meant aestheticly good looking design. (In this case, good or satisfying looking for me) I am not an engineer so I don't know about how much this design has an effect on the vehicles intended performance. Because of that I used the term aesthetic design.(Maybe I used the term wrong, if thats the case I'm sorry)
