AA / Paris
French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday reiterated his refusal to apologize for his country’s colonial past in Africa.
Macron was speaking during his participation in the last day of the Africa-France summit held in the coastal city of Montpellier (south-east), where he debated with a group of 11 young people from the black continent on various issues, including democracy in their countries.

The young people selected to debate with Macron castigated France’s paternalistic and colonialist attitude.
The French head of state declared that “apologizing will not solve the problem, however recognition will allow us to reach the truth”, calling for the rewriting of a common history in the light of his declared position.

This year’s Africa-France summit was held without the participation of African heads of state, with the exception of the French president himself.

Macron chose the new format of the summit, to “give priority to young people from African countries and to those who have the capacity to change the black continent and France and listen to them”, according to the French regional daily “Midi Libre”.
Macron’s statements come in a very particular context, marked by strong tensions between Paris and Algiers, after the newspaper “Le Monde” reported the words of the tenant of the Elysee in which he disputes the existence of a Algerian nation before the French colonization of the country in 1830.

“Was there an Algerian nation before French colonization? “, Asked the French head of state to this effect.
Algiers denounced Macron’s statements against him, considering them to be “an unacceptable attack on the memory of more than 5 million resistance fighters killed by colonial France”.

The Algerian authorities responded with the sanction by prohibiting the overflight of its airspace by the French military aviation, engaged in particular within Barkhane, a decision taken in the wake of Algiers recalling its ambassador in Paris “for consultations”.

Always knew he was projecting his own and France‘s problems on NATO.

He destroyed the influence France actually had in one region. Eastern EU doesn’t trust him. The English don’t trust him. The Americans don’t trust him. Turkey doesn’t trust him. And honestly neither do the Germans.

He has been kicked out of the indo-pacific. Africa is showing him the middle finger every opportunity.

But he can pat himself on the back for selling military hardware to Greece for 2x the price and make them believe he will stand with them when war should come even though the French don’t even are willing to stand with themselves and NATO and have proven this multiple times.

If France, thanks to Macron ,ever leaves NATO again in the near future hopefully dragging Greece with them we need to veto both of their inevitable request to return. Not making the same mistake again.

One thing Trump was right about was this guy.

“Everything Macron touches turns to shit”

no one cares about macron or France apologies , colonisation always gets on top of the news and topics at every single election in france , macron is just trying to pick up some votes that traditionally go the Le Pen's , now with eric zemmour's intention to vote reocketing at every survey , the poor macron is even more desperate .... so let's not give credit to this shit .

It's interestkng to see how he does things. He may be a french but France is far from run by incompetent. I wonder if there is a deeper plot behind this. I would love to know what the old diplomats who have served had to say. But something tells me when your opponent keep screwing up staying silent is golden.

Perhaps it's an attempt to sever ties to Africa. So they're only commercially involved.

It does not make sense, i they severe post collonial ties including military presence, there would not be commerce at least in extent which is now. But as noticed by others no quick explanation for his behaviour.

The History of the Ketchaoua Mosque

The Ketchaoua Mosque, located in the world cultural heritage site “Casbah” known as the “Old City” section of the capital city Algiers, was built in the 14th century as a small mosque.

Once the Ottomans gained control of the region in 1516, the small mosque was converted into a mosque and in 1792 Algerian Dey Hassan Pasha further expanded the structure to create a bigger place of worship.

After the French conquest of Algeria in 1830, the mosque was converted into a cathedral in 1832 and was used as a church for 130 years. In 1962, after Algeria gained its independence, Algerian people had their first Friday prayer at the mosque.

No wonder after Independance the Algerians kicked out the Pied Noirs and the Jews along with the Harkis.

Algerians suffered too much why would they allow these traitors to live in their country again.

Pied Noirs benefitted from French colonialism hence why they were their biggest supporters. After independance they left with their Colonial masters back to France.

I do believe Algerian Jews betrayed Algeria. They lived in Algeria for centuries but betrayed the land they lived in for centuries to be with French colonialism.

For alot of Algerians that was treason to the max. Harkis got what they deserved. They betrayed their own nation just to be puppets to French colonialism.

Explains why Algerians will never tolerate betrayals and treason. Hence why their country cant be subverted. Algerians have learnt as they gave a million martyrs

Next for Algeria is to establish the basis for claiming French crimes in Algeria during the 132 years of occupation as a Genocide against the Algerian people, and present their claims to the International Court of Justice and other International Legal entities. There is no Statute of limitations on Genocide.

Whats interesting when the French converted a lot of mosques to cathedrals or even demolishing many. The French believed this would be enough to break the spirit of Algerians only to have Algerians praying in the street.

The interactions of the Algerians with the Muslim Ottoman Khilafat for over 3 centuries must have had an effect in giving the Algerians even more confidence in themselves and in their religion. Can you believe, the French weren't able to convert the Algerians to Christianity, even though the French had a Christian missionary program in Algeria during all their stay in Algeria.

On the other hand, the French were able to convert large percentages of the populations of other African countries, even when they colonized them for shorter time periods.

Yeah the French really tried hard but the French underestimated the Algerians and their resolve.

Algerians were pretty strong in their faith.

The Spanish and the Portuguese tried to do the same thing but failed hard.

no need for that , the best answer for them is to develope our country to become the major african power and crush their interest's there , we wan't stay jailed to the past ..... their is no justice in international affaires the only rule is might is right .

the day we become strong enough to hit them hard they will come and present apologies by themselves .

We Algerians are on the same page on this matter, but I disagree with you on the fact that the crimes of the French 132 years occupation of Algeria should be condemned as a Genocide and reported as such, so that their horrific crimes will be remembered in history for centuries to come.
