The ROK Army is conducting joint exercises in Qatar. Good to see them in the desert.

Did you screenhot the video scenes? Just posted it here without noticing your pics 😁

Video from first overseas ROK joint exercises with K9 SPH, K10 Ammunition Resupply Vehicle, K1 Armored Recovery Vehicle and K2 MBT in Qatar.

First time for me seeing K9A1 and PzH2000, K2 and Leo 2A7 firing side by side in a training exercise.

It's been a long time. I'm glad it was adopted now. Rather than simply rejoicing over the decision, the SNT should respond faithfully to the demands of the military and build credibility going forward.
I'm also glad that this infighting, mudslinging and finger pointing between DAPA, Doosan Infracore and SNT has ended after all these years. The whole power pack saga should be a lesson for future projects for all involved parties from defense agency to private companies.

There's a lot more interesting stuff in the video lol. It seems like what's going to happen in Europe is being shown first in the Qatar desert.:)

Hyundai Rotem, South Korea‘s main tank producer, will develop a hydrogen fuel cell MBT til 2040.

First from diesel engines to a hybrid propulsion and lastly hydrogen fuel cells.

And Korea is by no means a latecomer in li-ion technology with renowned battery companies like Samsung SDI, LG Energy Solutions and SK Innovation.

Hyundai Rotem belongs to car giant Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai/Kia) and they are confident to master hydrogen propulsion safely for military vehicles.

Is there information about logistics and infrastructure?

Not that I know of. Korea has a pretty good infra for industrial & commercial hydrogen applications, and know how of hydrogen fuel cells similar to Germany.

My friend served as a K1E1 crew in the Army and when I showed him this picture, he had a hard time because it brought back memories of cleaning tanks after maneuver training.

K2 tanks in training in the UAE. The good thing about training overseas is that you can shoot beyond 3 km, which is not possible in Korea due to the terrain. In this exercise, they reported that they hit 100% of the targets beyond 3 km and even 4.5 km.

K-1 Tank Remote Unmanned Application Technology R&D Project. There was a project in the news a few years ago to study the unmannedization of mobile weapon systems in the future battlefield. To do this, the Army is providing and testing the K-1 tank.

I was lucky enough to see a video of the prototype taken at that conference.(I didn't go to the conference, the person who filmed it showed it to me. )From demonstrations of remote piloting to the ability to autonomously return to the ground to LIDAR identification of obstacles.... Of course, it's a short distance.
I also saw the implementation of detection/recognition/tracking capabilities based on gun/turret drive and scope video. The AI could tell the operator if the target was a tank, a person, an armored vehicle, etc. based on the identified footage.

The results of this R&D study are expected to be applied to other mobile weapon systems.

This is a documentary covering the overall details of the K-2 tank unveiled yesterday by KFN. Maniacs say that there is some very interesting content, but I don't have enough knowledge to examine it in depth. Those interested in MBT should refer to it.

The performance test of armor used in next-generation tanks was disclosed. Conventional armor typically penetrates about four and a half layers, but the ceramic armor used in this experiment penetrated only about one and a half layers.

Currently, ADD is developing core technologies such as 130mm cannons, APS, Panorama View System, and AI-based combat control systems for next-generation tanks. According to the head of the development team, the first test firing of the 130mm smoothbore cannon was successfully completed at the end of 2024.

The K2ME is a model optimized for the battlefield conditions in the Middle East (capable of performing missions reliably even in extreme heat reaching up to approximately 50 degrees Celsius). While the use of certain foreign-made components had previously limited exports to specific regions, the resolution of this constraint through the localization of components is now becoming a reality.

The event also featured an exhibition of five newly incorporated performance-enhanced components for the Middle East-spec K2 tank (cooling housing, power pack radiator, turret auxiliary cooling system, hydraulic oil cooler, and flexible fuel tank). The domestically produced power pack, applied to the export model for the first time, is equipped with a radiator that offers improved cooling performance compared to previous models and a cooling housing that draws in outside air to maintain the engine coolant’s functionality. The turret features a turret auxiliary cooling system that supplies cool air internally to maintain the functionality of electronic equipment and provide a comfortable environment for the crew.

A hydraulic oil cooler with increased cooling capacity is also installed on the Middle East-spec K2 tank. This device helps ensure that the Integrated Suspension Unit (ISU)—which plays a key role in the tank’s smooth maneuverability and attitude control—operates smoothly even in high temperatures. The newly developed flexible fuel tank not only features high elasticity and shock resistance to withstand desert sand terrain but also has a larger capacity. Various electronic components, including a gunner’s auxiliary sight specialized for high-temperature environments, have already been fully developed.
