It has been announced that the Turkic Council will choose a new name. I believe that it is officially known as the "Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States", which may be what is being changed... But If the common name was to be changed what would you like it to change to? Let's not forget that the name can change how the organization is perceived.

In fact, I would have liked all Turkish countries to unite and get the name "United Turkish States", but unfortunately this idea is not possible. A country from europe to china.. Metehan would have smiled if he saw this

I mean considering that Hungary is an observer it would make more sense to call it something with the name of "Turan".

Kurulutai of Turan? The Turanian Kurultai? Council of Turan?

However my personal favorite would be: The Turkic Kurultai

Would Turkey change its own name by this method?....as probably number of neighbours see "Turk" as enemy/negative/historic animosity etc.

It is important to assert own name/identity and not care about what others baggage/perception on your name is.

If they would like to change their names by baggage others carry about them, its up to them.

In India, every (white) foreigner is often referred to as "Firangi"....probably tracing back to Frank/France cognate. We aren't about to tell France to change its name on account of whole western colonisation (esp. given it was another western country that mostly did that in our neck of woods).

So really names are only so important and anything can be construed with them inevitably (no matter how irrelevant it is in modern time).

Central Asian Union, which was dissolved. No need to put Turkic/Turan in its name, ethnocentrism should be avoided in the name to be inviting to other participants that are not majority Turkic for example. But I really liked the name Turkic Council, why are they changing it?

Turkey is not really in central asia though.....

Also turkic/turan can be just language thing rather than ethnic. Though I guess there is intersection in this.

Turan is a mysnomer. It was actually first used for Iranian nomads like Scythians by the Achamenids. Later on when Turkic people took over the steppes the name sticked to them. Turan is actually an Iranian king.

My suggestion would be Kurultai.

You mean Turan and Turk derive from the same root?

No. There are many theories where the name Turk derives from, it is heavily disputed but the etymology of Turan is certain.

Here is what wiki says for Türk:
''It is generally accepted that the name Türk is ultimately derived from the Old-Turkic migration-term[59] 𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰰 Türük/Törük,[60] which means 'created, born'[61] or 'strong',[62] from the Old Turkic word root *türi-/töri- 'tribal root, (mythic) ancestry; take shape, to be born, be created, arise, spring up' and derived with the Old Turkic suffix 𐰰 (-ik), perhaps from Proto-Turkic *türi-k 'lineage, ancestry',[60][63] (compare also the Proto-Turkic word root *töre- to be born, originate').[64] ''

Here what it says for Turan:
''In ancient Iranian mythology, Tūr or Turaj (Tuzh in Middle Persian)[6] is the son of the emperor Fereydun. According to the account in the Shahnameh the nomadic tribes who inhabited these lands were ruled by Tūr. In that sense, the Turanians could be members of two Iranian peoples both descending from Fereydun, but with different geographical domains and often at war with each other.[7][8] Turan, therefore, comprised five areas: the Kopet Dag region, the Atrek valley, parts of Bactria, Sogdia and Margiana.[9]

A later association of the original Turanians with Turkic peoples is based primarily on the subsequent Turkification of Central Asia, including the above areas.[10][11] According to C. E. Bosworth, however, there was no cultural relationship between the ancient Turkic cultures and the Turanians of the Shahnameh.[12]''

A hundred years ago this is what the Turkic world was being reduced too.

Its obvious that had this occurred the central part of Turkey would have sooner rather then later come under greek/armenian genocide, let alone there being no one to stop the greek and european supported genocide of the Turkish Cypriots. No one in Europe would have raised an eyebrow to it. Just like they don't raise an eyebrow to communist pkk terrorism, instead support it.

Back then the idea that a wider greater Turkic world could be re-established would have seemed like a fairy-tale. Yet here we are today where things are a thousand times better. A united Turkic states is a very real possibility, it may take a hundred to two hundred years to achieve. But like Ataturk said, "Do not wait for them to come to us, we must reach out to them."

Every single one of us can work in our own capacity to support the welfare of our own people. For some it will be big things, for others it will be small things. Just don't be that Turk whose life drifts along without helping his wider family.

Actually its critical to the long term survival of the Turkic peoples as a sovereign peoples. Many great blocs are rising due to every nation experiencing external competitive pressures. Those nations who find themselves without a power bloc to lean on will become food for the bigger blocs.

I'm not saying that Turkic nations will form one nation, but they should form some of kind of political, economic and military union that leaves all nations independent but committed to the defending the rights of each other.

Turkic Union!!!

I want Turkic states cooperating by economic, political, military and culture.

Imagine we form our own military alliance if not at least cooperate when it comes to defence.
