On 9 February 2021, around 14:30hrs (LT), a horrible crash occurred when Fuerza Aérea Paraguaya (FAP, Paraguay Air Force) Cessna 402B 0221 (construction number 402B-1360) crashed at Ñu Guazú air base, Luque, Asunción (Paraguay).

The aircraft was operated by the Grupo Aéreo de Transporte Especiales (Escuadrilla GATE, based at Silvio Pettirossi air base, Paraguay) had eight people on board, of which seven were killed on the scene and one was seriously injured.

The aircraft arrived from Fuerte Olimpo and the cause of the accident is unknown yet.

Escuadrilla GATE operates Beech 58, CeU206G/T206H, Ce208B, Ce210N, Ce402B, Ce680 types from Silvio Pettirossi. This unfortunate 0221 was one of two Ce402s the FAP owned. The other one, Cessna 402C with serial 0222 (402C-0524) is reported as stored and offered for sale and last noted as such in July 2020. 0222 was damaged ten years ago, on 25 January 2010.
