WASHINGTON, March 12, 2024 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Poland of AGM-158B-2 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile with Extended Range All-Up-Rounds and related elements of logistics and program support for an estimated cost of $1.77 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.

The Government of Poland has requested to buy up to eight hundred twenty-one (821) AGM-158B-2 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles with Extended Range (JASSM-ER) All-Up-Rounds. Also included are AGM-158 JASSM classified test equipment; weapon system support; integration and test support and equipment; classified software delivery and support; unclassified publications and technical documentation; transportation; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $1.77 billion."

Poland signs major deal for several hundred JASSM-ER air-launched cruise missiles

According to the Polish Ministry of National Defence, JASSM-ER cruise missiles will become a key component of the Polish national early warning and deterrence system.

On May 28, the Polish Ministry of National Defence signed a substantial contract with the United States government for the procurement of JASSM AGM-158B ER air-launched cruise missiles, manufactured by American defence industry giant Lockheed Martin.

According to the ministry, the deal is valued at approximately USD 735 million. Deliveries of the JASSM-ER cruise missiles will begin in 2026 and are scheduled to be completed by 2030.
The exact number of JASSM-ER cruise missiles ordered by Poland has not been disclosed. The Polish Ministry of National Defence stated that the contract covers “several hundred” missiles. However, in March 2024, the United States Department of State approved a possible sale to Poland of up to 821 JASSM-ER missiles.
The Polish Ministry of National Defence stated that the war in Ukraine has demonstrated the crucial importance of having the capability to strike targets deep behind enemy lines on the modern battlefield.

The AGM-158 JASSM-ER cruise missile has a range of approximately 1,000 km. The Polish Air Force currently has both JASSM and JASSM-ER cruise missiles in its arsenal, carried by F-16 fighter jets, which are the core of the Polish Air Force.
In April 2024, then-Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited a Lockheed Martin facility. During his visit, he indicated Poland’s interest in also purchasing JASSM-XR missiles, which have a range of 1,600-1,800 km. According to the Polish Ministry of National Defence, this newly contracted large number of JASSM-ER cruise missiles will become a key component of the Polish national early warning and deterrence system"
