Qatari Emiri Navy’s first Musherib Class Offshore Patrol Vessel, Musherib Q61, started its sea trials on April 2.

Musherib (QB1) is the lead ship of the Musherib-class offshore patrol vessels built for the Qatari Emiri Navy. She was built by Fincantieri and launched on 18 September 2020 at the Muggiano (La Spezia) yard. Built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano, Musherib Q61 is expected to be delivered in 2022.

The construction of two OPVs for Qatar is the part of a contract that worth for Fincantieri nearly 4 billion euros, which envisages the supply of seven surface vessels, including four corvettes, one amphibious vessel (LPD – Landing Platform Dock), and two patrol vessels (OPV – Offshore Patrol Vessel) as well as support services in Qatar for further 10 years after the delivery of the vessels.

Musherib Class Offshore Patrol Vessel​

Musherib Class offshore patrol vessel is designed consistently with the RINAMIL(Rules for the classification of Naval Ships) for Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) rules and is a flexible type of ship capable of fulfilling different kinds of tasks, from surveillance to fighting vessel. The vessel is capable of operating a RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) through a crane located at the stern.
