Russia is preparing to provide Iran with Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets in the near future, according to a Saturday report citing Western intelligence officials.

The report by Channel 12 said the deal could include as many as 24 jets that were originally intended for Egypt, in a deal that the United States thwarted.

This left Moscow looking for a new potential buyer, which it has reportedly found in Tehran. The report comes after Iranian media said in September that Tehran was weighing such a purchase.

Intelligence indicated that Iranian pilots were already using the jets for training, the report said, without elaborating.

Washington has described an extensive relationship between Iran and Russia involving military equipment, especially since Russian troops invaded Ukraine in February. Both countries are targeted by stringent sanctions — Iran over its nuclear program and Russia for its actions in Ukraine.

Earlier on Saturday, a senior Ukrainian official pushed for the “liquidation” of Iranian factories producing arms for Russia and the “arrest of suppliers.”

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak tweeted that Tehran is planning to increase its supply of drones and missiles to the Kremlin, despite international sanctions on firms and entities involved in the transfer of weapons to Russia.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak tweeted that Tehran is planning to increase its supply of drones and missiles to the Kremlin, despite international sanctions on firms and entities involved in the transfer of weapons to Russia.

Reports indicate that Tehran has so far supplied Russian troops with some 1,700 offensive drones and plans on supplying 300 more in the near future.
Iranian-manufactured drones supplied to Russia have played a “central role” in attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine, Britain’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office said last week.
Mossad chief David Barnea cautioned on Thursday that Iran is looking to expand its supply of advanced weapons to Russia.
Barnea said Mossad was “still warning about Iran’s future and intentions, which it is trying to keep secret.”

Earlier this month, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) said Russia was also looking to help Iran, which could pose a threat to US allies in the region.

“What’s beginning to emerge is at least the beginnings of a full-fledged defense partnership between Russia and Iran, with the Iranians supplying drones to the Russians, which are killing Ukrainian civilians as we speak today,” CIA chief William Burns said in an interview with PBS.

why would Iran need these old fighter jets when they have had their own 5th gen fighter for over a decade now?

Do you know what surprised me the most when Iran's that bullshit was announced? An expert like Arda Mevlütoğlu (orko_8) had seriously analyzed this.

We're talking about Iran! The only things to be taken seriously are their habit of systematicly and constantly bullshiting.

what were his conclusions on it all? Because in general just one look at the thing and you know this isn't a serious project.

also has Russia refused to sell Iranians planes in the past? You would think that Iran who can't really buy fighter jets from the west would either have an airforce with Russian or Chinese fighters? Or am i just ignorant on it all?

reading that it seems like he was being kind but at the same time basically pointing out how impractical the entire thing is. Its what you would call a professional article, which tries to take a serious and fair approach to what is in front of them.

I suspect his personal feelings were much more like the personal feelings the common person has when seeing images of it.

Its kind of like had the TFX been presented and looked like that, we all know what we would have thought about it.

That's one thing that always hits me when i think about the problems the Turkish nation faces, every time i look around us in the immediate region you kind of realise that things could be a thousand times worse.

Russia did not want to sell them latest weapons and equipment, because of diplomatic pressure from west and Israel. They even cancelled the delivery of S-300 after it was paid for and only delivered it 7 years later after Russia got involved in Syrian war.
However as Russia is being isolated from the west now and Iran is the only one who openly supplied them weapons i would guess that things have changed,Russians have already said they would even sell S 400 if Iranians are interested, and there is a talk about selling and transfer of technology of other weapons as well.
Iran will definitely emerge as the biggest winner from the war in Ukraine it seems.

Iran to receive Russian Su-35 fighter jets in 3 months

Iran will receive Russian Su-35 fighter jets within three months under an agreement with Moscow, an Iranian parliamentarian said on Sunday.

Shahriar Heidari, a member of the parliament's National Security Committee, told Tasnim News Agency that the jets will arrive in Iran in the coming Iranian year, which begins March 21.

According to MP, Tehran has also ordered a number of other military equipment from Russia, including air defense systems, missile systems and helicopters, most of which will arrive soon.

According to media reports, Iran will receive 24 twin-engine, highly maneuverable fourth-generation fighter jets that will be used primarily for air superiority missions.

Some of the fighters are expected to be based at the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) Tactical Air Base (TAB) 8, located in the city of Isfahan in central Iran.

Iran has not acquired any new combat aircraft in recent years, except some Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters it purchased in the 1990s.

Iran and Russia have signed important agreements in recent months to strengthen their economic, trade, energy, and military cooperation.

Last September, Iranian Air Force Commander Hamid Vahedi stated that the purchase of Su-30 fighters was not on his country's agenda.
