Spanish Navy Awarded Navantia For The Maintenance Of Her Ships’ Engines Until 2023

The Spanish Navy (Armada Española) has awarded Navantia the Engine Maintenance Contract (CSMAE) for her ships until 2023, an agreement for a maximum amount of 25 million euros per year and with the option to be extended for two more years.​

Navantia has also been awarded the contract for the dry-docking of the ships, for a period of two years, extendable for another two years, and an annual amount of 22.5 million euros.

Navantia has been maintaining the Navy’s engines since 2006. The CSMAE department of Navantia’s Engine Factory, which reports to the Services Department, monitors, controls, plans and executes the maintenance of the 311 engines installed in the different types of Navy ships, a total of 77, which represents more than 90% of the total fleet.

These are propellers and generators from different companies and with very different characteristics and ages. Navantia’s personnel provides coverage for all of them in any of the Navy’s arsenals: Ferrol, Cadiz, Las Palmas or Cartagena, where the Engine Factory is located.

In addition to the maintenance work at the arsenals, with this contract Navantia undertakes to provide service to the Navy anywhere in the world to assist possible incidents in a period of less than 72 hours. This will allow the ships, whether deployed or in the arsenal, to continue participating in humanitarian, surveillance or defense missions around the world, with total availability and reliability.

As for the contract relating to drydocking, which will be carried out in all the company’s work centers, it includes preventive maintenance activities (scheduled), such as drydocking and surface treatment, corrective maintenance activities (incidental) and program management and life cycle engineering activities.
