This picture is showing very clearly the push for nationalization of the personal equipment of the Special Forces Command.

We can recognize Akdas AK-40 GL/GLX 40mm grenade launcher paired with Sarsilmaz SAR-56 for example.

Some of the notable optical accessories that are made in Turkiye include Fotoniks HNA holographic sights paired with magnifiers:

I think a dual laser-light module is not good, they are pretty bulky, heavier, lower battery life and light/laser output are also not great.
Absolutely agree. Optical performance and output are of critical importance for a tactical light. I am of the opinion it should be a dedicated device. I also don't like this dual design. Also there is the moment with the power supply which is preventing an optimal flashlight performance so you get "half ass" flashlight and short battery life that must be dedicated for the lasers. We see the trend of the newer IR lasers/illuminators to totally ditch the flashlight.

In 2014 the personnel of the Turkish Consulate in Mosul were captured by ISIS. 49 people including the security staff consisting of Police Special Operations unit and the diplomatic staff were held hostage.

This situation triggered the formation of a Special Missions Unit within the Special Forces Command OKK, named Special Operations Battalion (TIER 1). According to sources the plan was the unit to infiltrate enemy territory by a HALO jump, continue infiltration by land to the place where the hostages were believed to be held, execute a hostage rescue mission and evacuate the hostages to Turkiye. In the past the Special Forces Command trained according to similar scenarios in coordination with local forces.

A model of the building where the hostages were believed to be held was constructed, Intensive training and preparations started and the unit was ready, but due to the unwillingness of the political decision makers due to the risks involved the operation didn't commence. Negotiations took place under the leadership of the Foreign Operations Department of the National Intelligence Organization and the hostages were released by DEASH 101 days after they were captured. It is known that the location of the hostages changed 8 times in these 101 days.

According to sources the Special Operations Battalion was disbanded not long after the hostage crisis ended.

The picture below is part of a rare photo of a photo series that captured the short history of the Special Operations Battalion.

"TIER 1" units of the Turkish Special Forces Command have controversial history due to the alleged meddling of the units in critical internal processes for the State. The father of the Special Operations Battalion, the Combat Search & Rescue Regiment Command MAK (the role of the unit and its specialization was not limited to CSAR) was disbanded in 2014 (in the same year the Special Operations Battalion was formed) due to the allegations that the unit was involved in illegal operations in Turkiye and went out of control.

Currently the Special Forces Command possesses "TIER 1" Special Mission platoons which continue the tradition of high level of capabilities and professionalism of their "father" and "grandfather" units.

Next to the "TIER 1" SMU units of the Armed Forces we can confidently say that the National Intelligence Organization's (MIT) Special Activities Directorate possess "TIER 1" level SMU specialized according to the needs of MIT.

Picture of Mahmut Nazik being handled by MIT.

He was captured in result of a MIT special operation in Latakia, Syria in 2018. He was one of the planners of the Assad Muhabberat bombing in Reyhanli, Turkiye in 2013 where 53 people lost their lives.
