The General Court of the European Union confirmed yesterday that the Polisario Front is the only legal representative of the people of the Sahara which has the autonomy and the responsibility to act before European justice on behalf of the Saharawi people.

"In this regard, the court notes that the applicant is recognized internationally as a representative of the people of Western Sahara, even assuming that this recognition falls within the limited framework of the process of this territory. Moreover, his participation in this process implies that he has the autonomy and the responsibility to act, "said a statement from the EU tribunal.

"Finally, the requirements of effective judicial protection require the applicant to be recognized as having the capacity to lodge an appeal before the court to defend the right to self-determination of the people of Western Sahara", affirms the court in its verdict delivered on Wednesday on legality.
