Swiss Air Force F-18 vs. F35

In September 2020 Swiss voters voted with 58% for a new Jet-figter, which turns out to be the F-35.

With F-18 still in service, many active pilots and military staff (mechanics..) ask themselves - why not go for the F/A-18 Block III.

With no carrieroperations - what can the F-35 do that the F-18 Block III couldn't apart from VTOL?

The US Navy already hinted that even the BLK 3 Hornet will not be capable enough for future air war (against China), while Swiss don't face the same gargantuan challenge as the US in the Pacific, it's safe to say that the Swiss air force are future proofing their fighter fleet.
