But after cease fire was achieved, they became confident. Iraqi, Afghani, Pakistani.. militias returned home (some were still stationed in Deir ez Zor and Palmyra). Hezbollah was pulled out during recent war with Israel. So Assad remained alone.

Fast fall of Aleppo was a devastating morale blow for Assad forces, they lost will to fight and Shia did not come to help.

As I said earlier what really puzzles me is why Iraqi Shia militias did not come for help. They still have ENERMOUS man power. But did absolutely nothing and even pulled out their forces from Deir ez Zor and Palmyra without any fight.

I'll add two more factors:

1) Assad left Syria when the offensive started and did not show up. It had very bad impact on Assadist morale.
2) HTS rebranded itself, showed tolerance to minorities, DEI, etc.. So minorities did not see much reason to resist.

just to be clear I'm not implicating Cem Gürdeniz in what I accused some Eurasianists of in that post. Gürdeniz is very smart and erudite (I'm a huge fan of him), I was trying to present his approach as the more level-headed one coming from a Eurasianist pov, but still being welded to the dogmas of the ideological pov he comes from.
