TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Think tanks from Taiwan and India conducted military simulations focused on the Taiwan Strait and the Sino-Indian border in 2035, reports said Friday (June 7).

A delegation from Taiwan’s Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR) visited the United Service Institution of India (USI) last month, per CNA. The main difference with the latest tabletop games compared to other editions was the fact that they were being led by India instead of the United States, according to INDSR delegation head Shen Ming-shih (沈明室).

The participation of seven retired generals and seven former diplomats from India allowed for a better understanding of viewpoints from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Central Asia, West Asia, and Russia, Shen said.

As to future developments in the relationship between Taiwan and India, he did not expect significant changes, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was likely to become head of government following recent elections.

A congratulatory statement from President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) triggered a predictable angry response from China.
