The army sends personnel and heavy equipment of Engineer Department to help victims in the flood-hit areas and is ready to
support local authorities and all sec- tors in the relief efforts. The attempt aims to alleviate the flood situation. So that it has the least impact. Due to widespread flooding in Thailand, General Narongphan Jitkaewthae, Commander in Chief, monitors the situation closely and directs the units to help people with full capabilities, and until now, Army Disaster Relief Center has sent 2,164 rescuers and equipment such as 412 trucks and 192 barges to the flood regions in order to mitigate the harm- ful effects. On top of that, not only does the commander lay stress on agility and safety of the rescue teams, but he also gives precedence to quick response to the sufferers’ needs. The army, therefore, is ready to provide extra supports to the critical areas, especially by exploiting the heavy equipment in the relief mission. Meanwhile, the units continue to work together with their counterparts.

in the north, central, and northeast. Recently, Engineer Department prepares its heavy machinery, but some are already allocated to the units in the affected areas. They are as follows:
- 79A Ribbon bridges (sets of folding pontoon equipment) are installed as temporary floating bridges connecting submerged roads or replacing damaged bridges at the Chiangrat watercourse, Phimai school, Phimai district, Nakhonratchasima.

- Modula Fast Bridges (bridge-laying vehicles), which are normally posted at Engineer Department and Engineer Battalions nationwide, are deployed to Wangsan subdistrict, Maewong district, Nakhonsawan and Bunlung subdistrict, Nonthai district, Nakhonratchasima.

- Aluminum boats with 55HP outboard engine, which are large vessels with high speed that can ride through the strong current, are used to deliver patients and flood victims in Chaiyaphum and Nakhonratcha-sima.

- Inflatable boats with outboard engine has the load capacity up to 15 passengers and can be used in deep waters.

- Mobile clinic rafts are large floating structures that serve as medical centers and as storage and

distribution centers of emergency supplies.

- Centrifugal pumps (8 inches) are used to drain floodwaters out of the residential areas.

- Field water purification trucks are essential in the flooded areas because they contain an apparatus that produces potablewater.

Deploying heavy machinery of Engineer Department to help flood victims is the exploitation of the military equipment, which
complies with the commander’s policy, “the full and effective use of the army resources for the people”.
