The project will have taken almost ten years to materialize, Algeria will finally receive three Steregutchy Project 20380 corvettes in 2021, two of which are already under construction at the Severnaya Verf shipyards in St Petersburg, Russia.
The news was confirmed and substantiated by member JAMRA of the Defense and Technology forum who follows defense issues in the region.
According to our information, one of the stumbling blocks regarding this cooperation project has been the on-board armament and electronics. Russia has also suffered for several years from the European and Ukrainian embargo (inevitably) on ship turbines, a technology that Russia has picked up through the company ODK gradually from 2016. It seems that finally Moscow has agreed to deliver a modern version, equivalent to that entered into service with the Russian Navy in Algeria.
The version Algeria will receive is likely to feature Kalibr anti-ship and anti-surface missiles, a Pantsir M anti-aircraft system and Sam Redut missiles, equivalent to the S350.
