I am thinking whether it makes sense to get new Tanks and which it would be. Does/Has Tunisia ever had to use their tanks ?

They do but currently there's a financial constraints that are delaying this plan also a lot of the armed forces sectors needs an urgent modernization so in my opinion is not a very top priority.

According to Minister of defense Tunisia do need tanks for its UN peacekeeping missions and the modernization plan is pushed for that direction.

When it's only for Peacekeeping Mission than 105 mm Gun is enough. It were good when Tunisia choose the Solution with MZK Turret.
