Oh I think the Ukrainians are sober about the impending threat. Even if the president would like to downplay things as much as possible.

For me, the steady supply of weapons are already a correct way to go for NATO. A hypothetical Russian invasion could not be paralleled with the US invasion of Iraq, as there's a very huge gap between the US military and that of Russia especially in air power.

Not saying that Ukraine has a chance alone, but this is not going to be a Russian equivalent of the shock and awe or the Mariana turkey shot.

MOSCOW, February 8. /TASS/. At a press conference following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron called a conversation with Moscow a necessary condition for building peace in Europe.

"Russia is a European country. It is necessary to work with Russia to build a future in Europe," Macron said on Tuesday. At the same time, he stressed that a dialogue with Russia is required for solving other serious global issues.

He also noted that Paris is also interested in good bilateral relations with Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Moscow on Monday, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting of the two leaders lasted more than five hours.

Putin says doesn’t rule out Ukraine will try to resolve Donbass problem by force again

Ukrainian authorities have made two attempts to resolve the Donbass problem by force, Russian President noted

MOSCOW, February 8. /TASS/. Ukraine’s authorities have twice tried to resolve the Donbass problem by force and there are no guarantees they will not venture it again, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday after talks with his visiting French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.
"Ukrainian authorities have made two attempts to resolve the Donbass problem by force. Following another failure, the Minsk agreements were reached and they were backed by a United Nations Security Council resolution. Well, will they implement them or not? Or will the venture another such attempt? They have tried to do it twice. Are there any guarantees that the third attempt will not follow?" Putin said.
"Ukraine’s leader one day say they will implement the Minsk agreement and anathematize them on the following day, saying they will never do it because it will ruin Ukraine’s statehood," Putin noted.
The Russian leader thanked his French counterpart for raising these issues at the talks in Moscow. "These are issues of not only Russia’s security, but of the security of the entire world, entire Europe," Putin stressed.

He recalled that from Moscow Macron will head for Kiev for talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. "He shared his plan of further work in this area. I am very thankful to him that he spends so much time on it and is trying to find a solutions to this important problem," he added.

Russia has not let up with a military build-up along the border with Ukraine and deployed to border areas its 203-mm self-propelled guns, that could fire tactical nuclear shells.

Social media users posted videos showing 2S7 Pion self-propelled artillery guns at Vesela Lopan, Belgorod region, just 17 kilometers (10 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

Some experts said that this ic could be an upgrade version of an artillery system, called 2S7M “Malka”.

The 2S7 self-propelled gun, known popularly as the “Soviet atomic cannon”, can carry up to four 203 mm nuclear shells that could eliminate targets at a range of 37.5 km.

According to GlobalSecurity.org, 2C7 “Peony” is designed to suppress and eliminate nuclear weapons (SJA), artillery, mortars, equipment, rear, command posts, enemy manpower.

The main purpose of this self-propelled gun, which went into operation in 1975, was the suppression of enemy rear lines, the destruction of particularly important nuclear weapons and facilities in tactical depths up to 50 kilometers away.

The 2S7 ‘Pion’ self-propelled gun developed in the 1980s and still considered as one of the most powerful cannons in the world.

On top of that, Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday warned a nuclear war could break out if Ukraine joins NATO and accused the West of ‘complete disregard for our concerns’ hours after talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Moscow.

Are the "mr. very smart guy" still here who claim that the Russians can't use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine?

The one nation that showed any balls against Russia was demonised by western nations.

"Kick Turkey out of NATO" I remember the british media here was acting like Turkey was the greatest threat to the west after that incident.

The hilarious thing is Turks got more balls then nearly all NATO members. The problem is Turks don't have the same level of technology yet.

Russian tanks are lighter than other tanks, still they get stuck. Those regions are too muddy and snowy, terrain is very unsuitable for heavy vehicles.
