More than 20 tanks, 12 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) were destroyed and about 100 enemy manpower were dispersed by the RF Armed Forces on May 14 during the suppression of a counterattack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Zaporozhye direction during a special operation. This was announced on Tuesday by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

"In the area of the village of Vishnevoe, Zaporozhye region, the Kyiv regime made an attempt to attack units of the RF Armed Forces with the forces of two Ukrainian mechanized battalions on tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.<...> tanks and 12 infantry fighting vehicles.

The department added that the irretrievable losses of enemy manpower amounted to about 100 militants. The retreating Ukrainian tanks and infantry fighting vehicles were destroyed by artillery fire, and the militants were dispersed.

Ukraine: Commission presents plans for the Union's immediate response to address Ukraine's financing gap and the longer-term reconstruction​

Today(18.05.22), the Commission has set out plans in a Communication for the EU's immediate response to address Ukraine's financing gap, as well as the longer-term reconstruction framework. This Communication follows from the European Council call to address the consequences of the war in Ukraine via a dedicated Europe-led effort.

Immediate response and short terms needs

Since the Russian aggression started, the EU has significantly stepped up its support, mobilising around €4.1 billion to support Ukraine's overall economic, social and financial resilience in the form of macro-financial assistance, budget support, emergency assistance, crisis response and humanitarian aid. Military assistance measures have also been provided under the European Peace Facility, amounting to €1.5 billion, that will be used to reimburse Member States for their in-kind military support to Ukraine and the mobilisation of an additional €500 million is under way.

The war resulted in a collapse of tax, export and other revenues, compounded by large scale illegal appropriation of assets and export goods including in the agricultural sector, while essential expenditure skyrocketed. The International Monetary Fund has estimated Ukraine's balance of payments gap until June at roughly €14.3 billion ($15 billion).

Addressing Ukraine's significant short-term financial support to sustain basic services, address humanitarian needs and fix the most essential destroyed infrastructure will require a joint international effort, in which the Union will be ready to play its part.

The Commission therefore envisages to propose granting Ukraine in 2022 additional macro-financial assistance in the form of loans of up to €9 billion, to be complemented by support from other bilateral and multilateral international partners, including the G7. This would be paid in tranches with long maturities and concessional interest rates thanks to the guarantee from the Union budget. To make this possible, Member States should agree on making available additional guarantees. Together with grant support from the EU budget for subsidising the related interest payments, this will ensure well-coordinated and highly concessionary support to Ukraine.

GROZNY, May 22. /TASS/. Chechen military units have launched an assault on Ukrainian fortified positions in the settlement of Kamyshevakha on the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel on Saturday.
"Following a recent rotation, fighters of Chechen special military units have already started destroying fortified positions of nationalists near the settlement of Kamyshevakha. Following a successful liberation of Mariupol, our fighters under the command of Zamid Chalayev, the head of the Akhmad-Khadzhi Kadyrov Special Police Unit of the Interior Ministry’s Chechen Republic Department, moved to the Lugansk front," Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel.
He added that the storming of Kamyshevakha may entail certain risks for the civilian population, since the Ukrainian military keeps using civilians as a human shield.
"This time, firing positions were set up at a school and in private sectors. A large windbreak behind the settlement, where the enemy’s artillery is positioned, should also be taken into account. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation in Ukraine.

During the day, high-precision air-based missiles have hit 3 command posts, 13 areas of Ukrainian manpower and military equipment concentration, as well as 4 ammunition depots near Soledar, Sol' in Donetsk People's Republic and Nyrkovo in Lugansk People's Republic.

Operational-tactical and army aviation have hit 3 command posts, 26 areas of AFU manpower and military equipment concentration, as well as 1 ammunition depot near Krasnyi Liman.

The attacks have resulted in the elimination of more than 210 nationalists and up to 38 armoured and motor vehicles.

Russian air defence means have shot down 11 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles near Kurakhovo, Guselskoe of Donetsk People's Republic, Popasnaya of Lugansk People's Republic, Chernobaevka in Kherson region, Russkaya Lozovaya, Kozachya Lopan, Nizshee, Malaya Kamyshevaha and Petrovskoe in Kharkov region during the day.

In addition, 2 Ukrainian Smerch multiple-launch rockets have been intercepted near Kamenka and Bukino, Kharkov Region.
