A few more minutes on the financial crisis hitting Russia. War spending is predicted to rise a lot in the 2025 budget, oil revenues are likely to fall dramatically from what was predicted in the 2025 budget.

Russian analyst-in-exile Konstantin speculates on emergency actions Putin may take to try to contend with the government deficit crisis in the short term.

This is not so far away from my prediction some time ago that citizens could wake up one day to find that their deposits in banks had been converted into war bonds.

How would that work? If you had 1,000 rubles in your bank account, that would be replaced with a promise from the government to pay you 1,000 rubles with interest on a certain date in the future, chosen by the government.

Footage of the interception of a Ukrainian UAV by the Russian Yolka interceptor drone. The drone has been in use for a year now, the video was recorded in September 2024, but there is no technical information on the drone. The Yolka interceptor drone has homing and carries out kinetic interception of the Ukrainian UAV. The drone can also be equipped with a warhead. The interceptor operates on the principle of "fire and forget". This method allows you to quickly and safely respond to threats from drones

Footage of training and combat work of Russian snipers of the "Center" group, in the Krasnoarmeysk direction, in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine. Snipers work at extremely long distances of up to 1.5 kilometers, not only against manpower but also against heavy drones. Russian sniper rifles Dragunov, Orsis, Lobaev, models "Urban" and "Vozmezdie" are used. The video is shortened, moments of defeat of Ukrainian soldiers are removed from the video

Footage of an attack by a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber with FAB-500 aerial bombs with UMPK modules. The video was filmed in Kherson, showing a strike by a Russian FAB-500 aerial bomb on the command post and communications center of the 124th territorial defense brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The video also shows another bomb strike, perhaps the second bomb missed the communications center, or it had a different target. Technical information about the FAB-500 bombs is in the link to the video in the comments to the video.

A while ago Australia had promised to deliver 49 M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, the same kind that the US had previously delivered. Earlier this year it was reported that there were issues with their delivery, with the reasoning allegedly being that the US was not authorizing the transfer. It seems the tanks (or some of them) have now been delivered, according to Zelensky's tweet.

Nicuşor Dan just won the presidential elections in Romania, so we will continue to have a pro-Ukraine and pro-EU president. Russia’s hopes to get another trojan horse in the EU have been shattered.

This is fantastic news for Ukraine. Had Simion won it would have left Poland as the only country with a pro-Ukrainian government bordering Ukraine. Any Polish farmer/trucker border blockades (which happened multiple times, including one right now) would have a significant impact and considerable leverage.

By 10% i believe?
Did the right wing candidate even have a chance of winning it?

Yes, indeed it is good news. Also, Nicuşor Dan is likely to be more active on the foreign policy scene than the former president (Klaus Iohannis), who was very useless and indiferent to anything happening in the world.

Nicuşor Dan may actually be the head of state with the highest IQ among country leaders, as he was a two times gold medalist at the mathematics olympics when he was young, and he is still in his prime (55 years old). He managed to navigate very skillfully the trashy Romanian political landscape, and despite not having a political party, he ended up being the mayor of Bucharest and now the President of the country. He is a strategist who thinks many moves in advance, and he will probably use his skills to improve Romania’s standing in the EU.

Since Russia clearly favored Simion and Georgescu and was 100% against Dan, I expect him to be very hardline in his pro-Ukrainian stance. He will probably forge very strong bonds between Romania and France, as he is fluent in French and has studied for two years in Paris at the Sorbonne University, and was actively supported during his campaign by Macron. I expect Romanian-French ties to strengthen a lot during his term.

As for the Polish elections, in the first round the pro-Ukraine candidate got 30% of the vote and the pro-Russia candidate got 29% (after exit polls), so we shall see how things go in two weeks time. Maybe Simion’s loss in Romania will be followed by a loss in Poland of his pro-Russian friend.

It's really important that the Americans lift any and all restrictions, ensuring that all 49 units are transferred ASAP. Hell, they should sell an additional 100 units out of storage to the Ukrainians, in order to increase the fleet size substantially.

Ukraine's two biggest needs right now are infantry and armor (MBTs, IFVS, AFVs and APCs) to support and preserve that infantry. The West still has plenty of armor in storage and quickly being phased out. They could offset all the armor attrition that Ukraine will face over the next 6 months in a virtual snap of their fingers. It simply requires the political will power and funding to make it happen. Ukraine is desperately trying to form new brigades, while keeping their existing ones at reasonably full strength. It's incredibly hard to do that, however, without significant influxes of armor.

Multiple reports indicate that Italy 🇮🇹 will send an additional SAMP/T air defense battery to Ukraine as part of it's 11th military aid package. This marks the 3rd SAMP/T battery that Ukraine will receive and the 2nd from Italy (France 🇫🇷 sent the other).

SAMP/T is one of the the two tier 1 systems that Ukraine fields, capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles, with Patriot being the other system. It was recently reported that Israel 🇮🇱 and USA 🇺🇲 were teaming up to send a Patriot system to Ukraine and that Germany 🇩🇪 and Greece 🇬🇷 were teaming up to send another.

Ukraine's air defense continues to grow stronger. When these new systems are delivered, along with a number of German systems in the piepeline, Ukraine will slowly reach a point in which it's big cities and strategic military installations are exceptionally well defended from Russian aerial bombardment.

Finland 🇫🇮 announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, valued at $100 million usd. The package will consist entirely of domestically produced artillery shells and will be funded using the proceeds from frozen Russian assets.

Finland is currently in the process of doubling it's annual 155mm artillery shell production to 200,000 units per year.

New footage of the use of the Russian Yolka interceptor drone in combat in Ukraine. It is worth noting that the Yolka drone was also used to protect the parade that took place on May 9 on Red Square in Moscow; one of them was spotted with an employee of the Russian Federal Protective Service. The video shows the interception of the Ukrainian Lelek reconnaissance UAV by the Russian Yolka interceptor drone. The location of the shooting is not reported.

Clear footage of an attack by a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber with three FAB-500 aerial bombs equipped with UMPK modules. The strike with Russian FAB-500 bombs was carried out on a Ukrainian hangar with military equipment in the Kherson direction. The exact location of the shooting is not reported. The video also shows an explosion in the hangar, presumably of some equipment.
